WHAT THE H... IS GOING ON??
All right you girls! you are makeing me think again and blondes get these tremendous headaches when we have to use our brains instead of our our uh? feminine gifts? Anyway, some one said that if you take away our testtosterone we ain't nuttin' but girls anyway - right? OK, we were born with these what, 57 feminine genes (my words- wiring us BETTER than our brethren, most of whom don't have a clue); third, why all this Viagra stuff on TV directed to the "older" male population? Is it not that as we age ( I personally am getting better with age- but that's another story) the Viagra is to "help replace the loss/reduction of testtostrone? So it, to me, stands to reason that even if we have been repressing these genes with our testtostrone, as it "fades," these genes are able to manifest themselves even stronger???!!!!
Oh God where is my Midol, Bayer, something, now I have smeared my make-up and broke a nail trying to type this morass! Sally, CJ, Laura, someone comments??!!
Love ya,
Deborah

Julie, Hon, you done good!!!!! Thanks. There is nothing contentious about your response you just have to realize your dealing with a blonde here and well, you know what I mean. Anyway I don't disagree with any of with you said. I am, like possibly you and a lot of our sisters, looking for the whys? When you say we can not define femininity then it stands to reason that there is a definition but it is currently only defined by society and that is why we (CD'ers) are ostracized. Society sets the norms and we just don't fit in. Again the" why" raises its ugly head. We know society sees us as "odd", but we don't know, scientifically speaking, why we strive for the feminine personna. As for the rewiring of our brains, can we assume that we (CD'ers) were born this way - to me it seems the most feasible explanation. When and how it manifests itself no doubt varies with each individual, ie. some of us started dressing at a very early age and the rest at various ages as we matured. So assuming that we were born with this "gift" ( I personally don't see how it could just all of a sudden become part of our personna) then only through repression could we forestall the, dare I say, inevitable. Then again there are those who never enjoyed the thrill provided by this gift and took it with them to the grave!
I will say this, if in fact there is a "scientific explanation" I don't think we will see it in our lifetimes. So you and I and the rest of our sisters will journey down our road knowing we have this gift, that we are "wired better" and just revel in the fact that we are who we are and for me I am loving every minute of it. I only hope everyone else who reaches this stage in their lives enjoys it as much.
All you girls are fantastic!
Love ya all,
Deborah

I think there IS a scientific explanation for everything . . . we're just waiting for the right scientist to come along and explain it to us! (a good reason to keep funding our schools as best as we can!)Deborah wrote: if in fact there is a "scientific explanation"

Girls, this is great that we can civilly (is that a word?) anyway discuss this openly and among friends. I guess it comes down to: "we are who we are and most (if not all) of us thrill to the fact that we have this gift."
However this blonde has a delimina, "is it better to be bit in the panties or get a swift kick?
Love ya all,
Deborah

What the H...is going on.
Hi Deborah,
Well, you seem to have elicited most of the answers you were probably seeking, but just to add my couple of cents worth, as you know, I am a believer that the period from conception up to the first 36 months thereafter, we are 'programmed' by varying happenings which will forever after, have an influence over who we are, how we think, our desires, needs and our very existence.
Whether we grow into men or women or somewhere inbetween depends on so many events and at each level there is always the possibility of 'natures receipe' not being followed to the letter. As we know in the first stage it's which ever sperm wins the race, after that errors can occur with the chromosomal set up. We know there are many intersexed disorders caused by different mixes of X and Y chromosomes, but even if a foetus has XX or XY, subsequent events can still influence the final gender of the person.
Medical science records show us that about 1/20000 people have opposite chromosomal sex, that is e.g. men who have fathered children and in every way present as a man have been found to have XX chromosomes and vice versa for women. The resultant research of some of these people revealed that a persons real sex is determined by a cascade of genes initiated by one gene known as the Testicular Determining Factor. It is the presence of this gene alone which determines the sex and fetal gonadal development. This gene renders the X or Y technically irrelevant and can be attached to either X or Y.
The significance of this gene has been shown by medical scientists changing the sex of mice by biochemically altering this gene. Another thing which supports the theory that our genetic sex is programmed at the fetal stage is the fact that two identical twins who grew up in separate locations in different environments, both developed as transsexuals and this is further supported by the case of triplets in one family who all grew up to be transsexual.
The next level where things can go awry is with fetal gondal sex. At this stage the foetus can develop either male or female. Without the TDF gene the baby will be female. It's the TDF gene cascade which causes the undifferentiated gonads to become testes, after which they produce fetal androgen, which androgen then alters the genitalia. Up to this stage the baby would have developed a clitoris but that now changes to a penis and what would have become the labia now changes to the scrotum. Ovaries are not essential for the development of a female, but testes are required for male development.
We know that both sexes have estrogen and testosterone produced by the gonads and adrenal cortex, but it's the ratio of each which helps determine whether it will be a boy or a girl, but at this stage any deficiency of certain enzymes can cause defects which for example can cause a reversal of the fetal testosterone/estrogen ratio which is responsible for the feminisation of the the male organs, which then can produce the ambiguity commonly known as intersexed.
This we know from experience has no bearing on how the brain is wired at the time, because if surgeons surgically alter defects in the baby's genitals, it is a common event for the child to become distressed during puberty if the incorrect decision has been made by the surgeons as to the childs correct gender.
I believe if it is possible for such major errors and defects can be made by nature, then in all liklihood there are many many more minor errors made in the development of an infant which as we grow up leads us to have varying needs as to how we live our life.
There is evidence from control studies carried out on babies who were reassigned their gender surgically, which shows that gender destiny is locked in partially by thyroid hormone levels and is complete by around the age of 3, so really it does seem that it is never a choice of how we are, albeit there needs much more research to be done, but there is an ever increasing growing body of reputable medical scientists who believe that gender conflicts in people are a body error at brain level. They describe it as a neurosexual differentiation at the level of fetal hormones, testosterone/estrogen ratio being out of balance caused by defects with fetal gonadal development at the molecular level, which is determined by the presence or absence of specific genes in the Testicular Determining Factor cascade.
These genes produce enzymes which are needed for correct development of gonadal, hormone and neurosexual pathways and when these are disturbed, any small change of the genes can have marked effects on the end product, that being the adult person.
It;'s all a fascinating subject, but I suppose it's just a long winded way of me saying I agree with those who believe we are born this way. What is done is done and it's up to us all to get the best out of life we can, it can be as good or as bad as we choose, that's one choice we all do have.
My Kindest Regards.
Sally.

Watch nature, because it’s our greatest teacher, it moves and flows and moves on again. We can never be free until we disengage, so allow life to flow as you find it. The way it is, is the way it is.

Hi Sally,
As usual. BRILLIANT post.

Now if you could just appear on Dr. Phil and convince him.

I've heard and read him say that we are all addicted to this.
Lots of people love him, but because of his stance on this I have been unable to listen to anything he has to say.
soap
The debate about him was one of the first debates on the forum. Maybe I'll dig it up.
I found it!

Sally, I Love you!!!
So you kind of agree with this "dumb blonde." We were born this way, the testtostrone and cultural norms forced many of us to supress this "gift" but now as we get older and for whatever reason(s) "The Gift" begins to manifest itself and each individual that has this "gift" deals with it in their own way. (see article below - Jung feels the same way.)
I responded to you first now I have to go find the post that someone put up which I printed out this morning and had to run out before I could follow-up. It is eight pages from "Jung's Anima Theory and How it Relates to Crossdressing." http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepage ... /anima.htm
I have already shared it with my wife (who bless her heart- things that psychologist walk on water) and she was truly "moved" by it and I think that it is going to make her acceptance of "Deborah" even easier.
Look for the thread here somewhere and it is wonderful!
Love, Deborah
