All of this is very interesting, and I originally didn’t think I wanted to see or hear any more about the sensationalized “pregnant man.”
Right off—I think requiring sterilization is not necessary. It’s another example of a state saying, If you want to do something as drastic as gender change, then we’re going to make you prove your conviction. And you’ve got to prove it by jumping the hurdles that we think you should jump over.
Another example is the states that want proof of surgery in order to change the birth certificate. The old question about who you were attracted to was in that category, too—you couldn’t be attracted to women if you were asking for male-to-female surgery.
I’m not anti-government, so I don’t automatically resent any attempt at legal definitions. But I don’t like the heavy-handed legalities that get tossed around when it comes to gender changing.
