Archeology and a tutu

British born surveyor and archaeologist named Sir William Matthew Flinders Petrie is often called the "father of modern archaeology." He was the first surveyor to make accurate measurements of the pyramids on the Giza Plateau. He didn't carry a whip or wear a fedora while working on the plateau; instead he surveyed while wearing a ballerina's tutu!

It's a good way to keep people at arms length. Probably a good thing when decyphering ancient carvings.

There was a rule when doing any kind of archeology in Egypt: The more eccentric you were the more you could get away with...
