This appears to be a step forward.

The story and the action does look like a step forward.
But look at the comments. Saddening. I stopped reading them after the first 4 or 5 pages. Every comment was negative. In fact frightening.
The caring, accepting, tolerant people we hear each other talk about on this forum are not the people comment on the story.
Makes me want to stay in the closet and install a lock.

What is bad is, she is an avid poster to youtube, and loves to read the comments. The recent comments by the bigots out there have really upset her. Hopefully she won't do anything rash.

That is the one issue with the social media craze of today, the hate mongers can lurk in cyberspace and just hurl whatever drivel they fancy as the "cause" of the day. Facts, feelings, and consequences are not their concern, just their idea of what is right. I wouldn't be surprised if some of the hate mongers attacking this poor youth aren't sending hate mail to the new pope because he dares to speak out against their idea of how the world should be. It is almost becoming like Senator McCarthy in the 1950's but at least he had the courage to do it in public, not hide behind a digital wall!
On a lighter note I think it is wonderful this happened, you've come a long way Baby!

I'm quite sure there are a number of different hater groups organized to descend en mass in numbers large enough to frighten away legitimate comments on anyone newsworthy enough to draw lots of viewers and who offends their bigoted little hearts.
There is at least one on-line popular science magazine that no longer accepts comments on their articles from anyone, because of vitriol it forced them to put on their sites.
