He was born June 9,1915 in Waukesha Wisonsin. At age 8 played the harmonic, banjo and then guitar. Played semi professionaly at age 13 and then dropped out of school to play with the Wolvertons Radio Band. Dissatisfied with electric guitars he took a 4 x 4 post and put it in the center of an Epiphone guitar with pickups and made one of the first solid bodied electric guitars dubbed "The Log" He is credited with being the first to use mutitrack recording and overdubbing of guitar parts and is more of an inventor than guitar player. At age 90 he won 2 grammys in 2006 for his current efforts. One of his greatest collaborations with another well know guitarist also won a grammy in 1977. The album simply titled "Chester and Lester"
In an interview a few years ago he said "People don't know I play guitar, they think I am one" He is known as the father of the electric guitar.Who is this guitar legend still rockin at age 90?

You guessed it Elizabeth! His given name was Lester William Polfus. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988 by Jeff Beck who said"I've copied more licks from Les Paul than like to admit."
If Les Paul ever heard how I play my Black Beauty it would make him cry! I can still hear my Mother's words of encouragement when I was a little kid up in my room with my electric guitar and amplifier.
"TURN THAT DAMN THING DOWN!" Wish you the best Elizabeth. I understand. It's like Kermit always said"It's not easy being green" Have a great weekend Hun.

Bad times don't last forever. Hugs

Hey Jeannie,
Yes, Lester worked for Epiphone which was later bought by Gibson guitars. I beleive he worked in the Memphis, Tenn factory. Chester and Lester of course was the collaboration between him and Chet Atkins another incredibly gifted guitar player. I will never forget watching Chet Atkins play "The Entertainer" the famous song from the movie "The Sting", on a guitar. I was amazed.
I did see them together on some show performing one of the songs from their record together back in 1977 when it came out. Ironically about the same time I bought my Les Paul. Here is a pic of Raven and that fine instrument which my brother affectionately named Lester.
At the time Chet Atkins has a signiture model Gretch that I almost bought, but I really wanted a solid body guitar. Also they don't make Les Pauls with maple necks that often, it turns out. I like the edgyness it gives it. Just a tad brighter than a regular Les Paul.
Anyways, here's to Lester and Chester.
Love always,
Elizabeth
I loved Chet Atkins

Nice Marshall! If i can figure out how to put a freaking picture in these posts I'll send you a picture of my few guitars. Remember . I'm an old gezzer! They didn't even have hand held calculaters when I went to school! Throw me a freaking bone will Ya!
I loved how Chet Atkins played. His effortless style while playing the most intricate things. He was so humble and never full of himself and just played beautifully. Say hi to the Ravester for me Elizabeth. I have to come up with another "Guess the guitarist" for you. I think you will be difficult to stump. Les was an easy one. Let me put on my thinking cap!
You guys are great. Love Ya both.

Rock on! Hugs and kisses.
Love
Jeannie
