A young man was living on a ranch in the eastern foothills of the Rocky Mountains. Just after he turned 15, his father was thrown from a horse and died from a broken neck. As there was only his mother and sister to help with the work on the spread, the young man took it upon himself to do the work on the ranch. For a whole year, he worked by himself herding cattle on the ranch to even spending the summer by himself in a line shack in the high meadows to allow the steers to graze on the plentiful grass that grew there in the summer months.

Despite offers from his mother and sister to bring in help, he always insisted that he could handle the chores and insisted that they save the money. Well, needless to say, his sacrifices and his maturity of shouldering the load did not go unheeded. His fairy Godmother noticed his selfless acts and decided to reward him.

It was just about time to drive the herd back down to the lower pastures when the fairy godmother visited him while he was out riding the fence line.

"Son," the fairy godmother told him, "I have seen how you have done these generous and selfless acts for the sake of your mother and sister. I will grant you three wishes for anything you want."

The young man considered for a moment and told her, "I would really love to have a fine set of leathers and high quality clothes to go with them."

The fairy godmother waved her wand and to the amazement of the young man, he was suddenly dressed in the finest leathers with intricate hand-tooling and silver trim, a matching leather vest and the finest in western clothes of the highest quality. Needless to say, he was astonished!

"What's your second wish?" the fairy godmother asked.

"I would love to have a matching Mexican Saddle of the highest quality!" the young man replied.

Again, the fairy godmother waved the wand and suddenly, the young man was sitting on the finest silver trimmed Mexican saddle he had ever seen.!

The fairy godmother then asked him, "What's your third wish?"

The young man thought for a moment and replied, "I want to be hung like this horse I'm riding!"

Again the fairy godmother waved her wand and disappeared in a flash of light.

The young man sat there for a moment, not believing his eyes! He turned his horse around and galloped back to the line shack at a full gallop. When he got there, he jumped off the horse, ran into the line shack and into the bathroom. He admired himself in the mirror for a moment and then unfastened his belt and dropped his pants. The smile on his face suddenly turned to a look of total horror and he exclaimed, "OH DAMN!!! I forgot I was riding Nellie!"

Virginia,

Living in Montana, I'd have to say those are mostly true, except for me of course
