I was listening to this talk show on the car radio the other day. One of the talk show hosts named several "new" words that came into use during 2016.
The second host chimed in: "Oops, you forgot one".
The first host said: "what might that be?"
The second host said: "The word you forgot was 'vikes-a-phobia', which means having an acute fear of Super Bowls." The explanation that followed said that after the Minnesota Vikings started the season at 5-0, and people started prematurely talking about first round bye and home field advantage throughout the playoffs, the team became very nervous and decided that they better slow down before that dreaded phobia overtook and paralyzed them.
I think that is a logical explanation why the first 1/3 of the season they went 5-0, whereas the second 2/3 they went 3-8, consequently missing the playoffs altogether. Sounds reasonable, don’t you think?
Then there are the 2016 Minnesota Vikings. Must we? Yes, unfortunately we must. I was seriously considering revising my will, so as to make the Vikings be the pall bearers at my funeral. That way they could let me down one last time. I have reconsidered that idea however. I’m starting to have doubts, wondering if they would be able to carry a casket without fumbling that too. Perhaps they should just go to their local bakery and wait for the bakery to have turnovers on sale.
At the beginning of the 2016 season the Viking “band-wagon” was so overloaded that the axles were on the verge of splitting. Now however the band wagon is empty and the horses that pulled it have been put out to pasture.
Any good Minnesotan knows what we all say best: "Well, maybe next year".
enjoy,
