Survival of the fitest! I know a lot of us have questioned how things are now versus when we were younger, like helmets for riding bicycles when we were young, appearently concussions have only been discovered recently. How we ever survived is a miracle, but here are some examples of things that make me question Darwin:
1. Having TypeII diabetes, i usually split my meals into several smaller ones through the day, so knowing I needed to eat the other day, I went into McD's. Looking over the menu and listening to the teenage clerk attempt to count change back to the customer in front of me, I got an idea. The McNuggets come in 6, 9, and 12 per order, and being a natural born smartalec, I asked the clerk for a dozen McNuggets. She just looked at me and said "Sir, we don't have a dozen McNuggets." I returned her blank look and asked for a half-dozen Mcnuggets then. Again I got 'the look', and she said "We don't have a half-dozen either."
So, I just told her give me 6, and went and enjoyed my meal.
Hhhhhhhmmmmmmmmm.
2. WalMart. I was in the checkout line one dayand our local store was training some new checkout persons, so the lines were a little congested, and there lots of items stacked on the conveyor belt at the register ahead of me, so I put the plastic divider bar between my items and the ladies in front of me. The clerk finished checking the lady in front of me and settled up with her, then reached over and picked up the divider bar, and attempted to scan it. Finding no bar code, she asked me if i knew how much it cost, and me being me, politely, and quite truthfully, told her I had no idea, as I had never purchased one before. The girl looked around for a second for her supervisor and seeing she was busy, picked up the intercom and asked for a price check on her line. When she hung up the intercom, I told her that I had changed my mind, and didn't really need the bar, so she placed it to the side and immediately called to cancel the price check, rang up my items, and I left. I wonder if she ever figured out why so many people were trying to buy that plastic bar.
3. My father was a long time Boy Scout Troop Leader and a professional locksmith when I was growing up, and he always told me to be helpfull to people whenever I could be, and I really do try, most of the time. One day as my wife and I were leaving the mall in Amarillo, a young woman a cpl of cars away from ours was obviously having some trouble getting into her car. My wife nudged me and told me to go see if I could help.
The woman was grateful that I offered and explained that the remote for her car was not working and wouldn't unlock the door, and she was going to be late for an appointment she had to get to. She pointed to a convenience store at the far end of the parking lot and asked if they would have any batteries that might make it work. Well, me being me, again, I took her keys, unlocked the door with the correct one, and suggested she drive over and see about the battery, since it was a long way to walk, and it was pretty hot out that day. She did actually thank me for helping, and it gave me a good chuckle for the day.
Anyone else have any good reasons to question Darwin?

Roberta,
I can give TerriLynn the benefit of the doubt on the first 2 stories but the last one I first read about 10-15 years ago on the net, unless, of course she was the one who originally put it there! (or maybe she independently had the same idea?
)
Very good stories TerriLynn. It reminds me of the fact that for younger folk you cannot tell them the time is "quarter after", "half-past" or "quarter of/to" the hour. These phrases have absolutely no meaning on digital clocks!

Well, I will tell this one on myself, after careful consideration, I would not recommend that anyone else try it!
Cashed check in my bank then slid a $20.00 back to the teller and ask for change and she said, "how would you like that?"
"Well," I said, " how about 4 tens and two twenties!" she actually started to count it out, then caught herself and I just smiled. As I walked away with my 2 5's and a 10 it dawned on me that I probably could be arrested for trying to rob the place, so I don't do that anymore!

I have a personal experience for you. A new Sonic drive-in with a faster drive-by window for small orders opened not far from my work. I went over and ordered a large drink and a snak, for a total of about $4. I drove up to the window and tendered a $20 for payment. The young lady informed me she needed exact change as the computer had gone down.
While I was scrabbling in my purse to put together loose change to go with the $1 that was my other bill, I could see that her till was open and she had access to money. So I asked if she couldn't just make change for the $20 from the till. She explained she was new and had not learned to do that yet!!! Apparently money handling skills are not taught to college age people at any point in their education.
I explained the change would consist of a $10, a $5, and a $1, and she acted like I was trying to scam her. I asked to speak to a supervisor, an older lady, who came up, made the change. And I recommended they hire college graduates since it obviously took more education than highschool to learn to make change, and she should be aware that the computer would go down again at some point as they are unreliable and programed by people who likely could not make change either.
She turned quite pale at some part of that idea.

I do have to admit, I read about the first story online, but, I just had to try it out to see if it would happen, and it did. Like I said, I can be somewhat of a smartalec sometimes when I'm in the mood. But the other two did actually happen to me, so appearantly, lack of common sense isn't an isolated thing. lol.
