party

Post by Absaroka »

Well we had a bday party for myself and a close friend this weekend. I did all the meal planning. It was my friends so no one needed to be impressed with anything besides the fact that we have all lived yet another year longer than we originally expected to. We had a big plate of fresh fruit for hors d'ouvres and the main course was salad, pasta and vegies with your choice of goat, octopus, or for the more conventional, soy meatballs. The only unhealthy thing was the small bday cake....Between them the folks who can drink alcohol managed to drink half a small bottle of wine.

It was a great party and everyone had a wonderful time. It made me realize that you don't have to have chips and soda and cheese and three desserts and a whole truckload of other things that are bad for you. Maybe we can have more parties and I will just be careful to tell people not to bring anything except salad and fruit.

So I am not so irritated with women and food any more. Over half the guests were female. Interestingly the women strongly preferred the goat meat while the men much prefered the octopus. I of course ate both. Is that a sign of gender confusion? Or are tentacles some sort of phallic symbolism in food?

Happy Birthday!! //party !!hb!! //party

Glad to hear it went so well. As to the food choices, well I'd go for the goat if it were marinated and grilled, but I'd probably prefer lamb. I doubt there's anything the least bit phallic about octopus, especially if you sliced the tentacles into smaller pieces.

Let me think phallic octopus, phallic octopus -- naw! I won't go there! Haven't been to the wood shed in a while and this won't get me there this time!

Happy Birthday, Absaroka! Glad you had a great time with great friends and family!! =D>

Hmmm . . . I'll skip the goat, octupus, and soy meatballs if you don't mind . . . I prefer the real thing, and it's not Coca Cola - it's BEEF!! Everything else on the menu sounds great.

Red Stripe Lager sounds good . . . anyone up for some Guinness, Pale Ale, Tenents, or Amber Bock with their steaks?!? :-k

Thanks everyone.

Cut the tentacles into pieces? What are you, barbarians? They looked so cute all curled up sort of like a fiddlehead with little suckers. Almost as cute as Carols bunnies I'll bet.

Beef is good too, but we eat that reasonably often. This was a special occaision.

Best part of the party was (and I'm way past 21 now) the fact that most of the people there, except for the children for obvious reasons, have known each other for about 30 years, since we were confused 20/30 somethings. It's been a long strange trip. We've gone from talking about things like difficult parents and who do we hope will go out with us to talking about things like who is a grand parent now.

the main course was salad

Salad ain't food!

Salad is what food eats!
