Try networking your laptop thru your desktop to get to the printer.

Hi Dianna
I'm not surprised to hear of your HP problems. During my research before buying my new machine about a year ago, I read about many incompatibility issues between Vista and some existing or older hardware and software programs.
However, as Vista was Microsoft's new baby, I figured I should probably get used to it despite all the negative comments around at that time, assuming the flaws were going to be corrected eventually. Just to be safe though, I had my computer store install XP as well as Vista, giving me dual O/S capabilities. That way, it gave me a back up option should I run into problems. My experience with the version I had (64 bit) seemed to make those incompatibility issues that much worse, and on more than a few occasions, I had to flip over to XP if I wanted to get any work done.
The arrival of Windows 7 is highly anticipated and most of the beta test results thusfar that I've seen have been mainly positive, so hopefully the new O/S (whenever it's available) should be a big improvement on Vista. Whether this will solve your printer problem, only time will tell. If you don't have the patience to wait, and with the cost of printers these days, buying a new one would be your best option if you're not able to network your present one.
Best of luck
Stephanie
