Visited my father

Post by CassandraB »

I visited my father in the hospital this afternoon, had a heart attack yesterday and some changes are going to be made.My father is recovering very well anyway. My father does smoke and the doctor is getting him to quit and my mom is making huge cooking changes. My mom and I are getting him to quit smoking too,I have allergies to cigarette smoke since I was 10 years old and he knows this.Going to have a meeting with my allergy doctor on this to get him to quit.Put me in the ER twice when I was 16 years old.

It sounds as though no one else in the household smokes? A big help toward quitting!

I wish you all the best and hope that your father has a good recovery!

Hugs.

Good to have an army of help for dad. Hope he wants to quit as much as everyone wants him to. Glad he survived his heart attack.

Best wishes to everyone.

Good to hear he is recovering.

Hopefully he'll be able to quit and recover fully.

Sorry to hear about your Dad, but glad he is getting better.

After my wife quit smoking, our house became no smoking even though I was still smoking.

At times my wife would get agrivsated at me or some of the kids over something and ask for a ciggrett. She would be told we would give it to her but outside. If we couldn't smoke in the house she couldn't either. She never did take us up on that.

I hope your Dad kicks the smoking.

Sorry to hear of your fathers heart attack. Here's hoping for a speedy and health recovery. I hope he can stop the smoking, there are so many things that can help these days. Its been 19yrs for us (my Wife and I). Its very hard at first but it gets easier and easier as time goes on.

Hi Cassandra

Sorry to hear that your Dad has had a heart attack, it’s always very worrying when a loved one is unwell. He will have a speedier recovery if he takes heed of the doctor’s advice to quit smoking. I don’t know how old he is, but if the results of recent research is correct, he will add several years to his life just by quitting smoking now. Up to when my dad had his heart attack, he had never even been in hospital in his life, and I think the shock of it had a profound effect on him. Almost overnight he stopped being obstinate and pig headed and being the Mr. Macho smoking Capstan Full Strength. He followed the doctor’s advice to the letter, quit smoking, modified his diet and started exercising! I’m not saying it was easy for him, as an ex-smoker myself I do know just how difficult it can be, but in those days we did it “cold turkey”. Today there are many aids to quit and support is available. The one piece of advice he followed faithfully, was taking his glass of scotch every evening, for medical reasons of course.
