The live music scene here in Liverpool is as alive and well as its ever been, there are some very good musicians playing the pub and hall circuit on a nightly basis. We go as often as we are able as it much more enjoyable than the pap they feed us on television.

Here is an example of the talent, Davy is a friend of ours and I doubt you will hear a better cover of this song.

I like hearing about that live scene, April. I would still love to be doing it, even though the floor of a van is a little hard for my aging bones.

Susan, even the best bands have always seemed like 'pap' when they're on TV. Something about that medium does not work for me, when it comes to music.

Lydia, there was something about the Beatles that resonated with the collective consciousness. When I read about other musicians that have recorded Beatles songs, the list is long, and it includes Frank Sinatra if I'm not mistaken. Granted, it's "Yesterday," or "Eleanor Rigby," not "I want to hold your hand."

I-IV-V's have always been difficult for me to appreciate. For you who do not play music, the numerals refer to the chord structure of the song. Everyone here would recognize this "formula" if they heard it played. "Rock around the clock" and "Johnny B. Goode" are examples.

I play them at jam sessions, because it's easy for others to pick them up. But I like something else thrown in to the mix, no matter how subtle. I play a Young Rascals' song called "Come on Up," and they go down to the flat-seven chord and back to the I. That helps me make the song come alive.

Quite right Paula, so many top notch album covers in the past. My own personal favourite were the Tubular Bells cover and Renaissance's Song for all Seasons ( http://www.nlightsweb.com/lib/gallery/asong2.jpg ) but I don't want to start a list here.

Court of the Crimson King.

2 of my favorite songs are on it, Moonchild and Epitah. At one time I considered using a line from epitah for my signature here

"Confusion will be our epitah"

Anita, bVII to I is nice. A lot of songs also have iv7-bVII7-I7. It's even got a name, the back door progression.

I actually saw the Beatles once (would you believe?). It was (I think) the 1964 Christmas show at the Hammersmith [London] Odeon [now Apollo]. I say saw, because they were totally drowned out by the screaming fans (or anyway that's how I remember it). They came on dressed as Yeti and then revealed themselves. There were quite a few other people on the bill, including Freddie and the Dreamers. Maybe it was a "Liverpool Sound" package. My mother arranged this as a birthday present for me (I was 11), but honestly I think she wanted to see what all the fuss was about and did this. She bought "Revolver" when it came out and there was a big thing in the "quality" press about whether you could compare them to quality music (e.g Classical) from the past (or "art" in general).

I always really liked them. I do think there is something to them that is both original and quite lasting. And Lennon, if not a terribly nice person, both understood the spirit of the age and moved it.
