taxes

Post by Ralitsa »

Well ladies, I filed my taxes using the super whiz-bang "free fillable forms" system. I did that last year also, and it worked pretty well. So I'm feeling pretty confident that I should get my money back quickly.

Instead, I get a rejection email from the IRS, which says:
Here's the reason for the rejection:

Field/Xpath: /efile:Return[1]/efile:ReturnData[1]/efile:WagesNotShownSchedule[1]/efile:WagesNotShownSch[1]/efile:WagesLit[1]
Issue : Business Rule X0000-005 - The XML data has failed schema validation.
So what the heck is that supposed to mean???? ahhhhhhhh ](*,)

I suppose that I have some wrong data in a field somewhere, but it would be nice if I knew which one.

First it might mean try again. The other is that the software you used doesn't have the latest format of the file as the IRS expected it. Check to see if your software is the latest version.

well it is the IRS' own software, but I understand they are having some issues with it anyway.

So I finally figured it out, I was so desperate that I had to read the help. #-o
Apparently it is VERY VERY sensitive to formatting. All the number fields have to be ALL and ONLY numbers, no commas, no spaces, $, or anything else. After 5 tries I finally got it to go through.

Other than that minor problem, it's really a pretty quick and easy way to do it :?

yeah, I know...

In the engineering world, we have a special MIL spec for contractors that are having problems getting the thing to work. (Background info for you ladies not in the US: MIL specs are standard specifications used by the US military)

We called it the MIL-TFD-F1. It stands for "make it like the ______ drawing for once."
Sort of the same idea, I guess.
