Iv'e been wanting to post this for days, just never had the time. This morning finally got the chance, I typed for an hour then the electric tripped!!!! I was on the last line !!!!!!!!!!!!! AARGHH !!!!!!!!
Anyway back to the beginning.
I know it won't be of interest to everyone, just that it had a large impact on me and I wanted to share it.
On sunday I went to see Todd Rundgren for what is said to be his last UK appearance... surely not.
Myself and a few friends travelled down and arrived in good time, found the venue and then proceeded to the nearest pub. I phoned ~D~ to tell her that we had arrived safe and that I love her. I wish she had been with us.
The concert hall was very large, we were in the stalls near the front, and when you looked behind it was quite a sight, circles going up and up. I got talking to the lady sat in front of me and she told me he didn't play 'love is the answer' which was a shame.
The show was split into two halves, the first half being songs from his latest LP. These were all about truth, hipocrisy, lies, honesty, etc. He came on stage like a man with a mission, he walked on, sang a verse, walked off, walked on , sang a verse, walked off, etc. He looked older, what did I expect, 26 years since the last time I'd seen him.
Normally a Todd concert has a feelgood atmosphere 'hey, wer'e all in this together' type of thing. This show had a message and I couldn't help thinking that as he is getting older, he realizes that he still has so much to say, the fact that he wore dark glasses added an extra twist. The second half was a much more relaxed affair, he started talking to the audience and some of the old Todd atmosphere started to gather.
As is customary in a Todd concert, a lot of us went down to the front near the end and shook hands with Todd as he was singing. For an encore he did the old fave 'Just one victory' and a nice feeling of love was in the air.
When I was at the front, I looked around and couldn't help but see the obvious. He had been singing about the hipocrisy that often comes along with religion, and there everyone was, hands outstretched trying to shake hands with him. The dark glasses then added to that mystery. It was no mistake that I shouted out the first line of 'love is the answer' during a quiet moment.... " name your price, Todd " I wondered what it was that people wanted, to receive or to give. Myself, I wanted to show appreciation for this man who had had an effect on me in my life, and compassion for the fact he is up there, just an ordinary bloke, with ordinary fears trying to make his way. Like I said, it was a nice atmosphere and one to be cherished.
After the show it was a quickie in the pub and then home.
A couple of points I 'd like to add.
When I got home, ~D~ was fast asleep, but on the pillow there was a card she had made. It spoke of love, was absolutely fantastic and I will treasure it. It sits next to the monitor .
A couple of days later I was browsing, and came across some reviews people had posted about the show. One was quite lengthy and started like this...
' All was well for this one. Arrived in good time, even got to chat to nice chap who hadn't seen Todd since 1978. I was so sad when asked did he play love is the answer with such longing in the voice and I had to say sorry, no '
If anyone is interested there are some photos at the following site, I'm afraid I'm not sure how to add the link, so it would have to be typed in
or maybe dragged up ?

So, there we go, The long awaited Todd concert.
All in all, one of the sweeter memories
