Barbie Couture
Hello ladies,
There is an article in today's Wall Street Journal (1/30/04) stating that Mattell is coming out with a line of Barbie clothing for adults. It is called "Barbie Couture" and is intended to be an aspiration brand like Chanel. Mattell has opened several boutiques in Japan and is planning on opening some in the U.S. in the near future. They are trying to appeal to older teens who have outgrown playing with the dolls.
The prices are rather high-end, i.e. $275.00 for an outfit., so I'm not sure whether this is going to be affordable to most. Maybe the prices will come down.
After reading the article, I was wondering if any of you have any desire to own Barbie dolls or similar toy items.
I don't, but I respect the fact that others might have some interest in doing this.
I have some vague memories of playing with my sister when we were younger. She is 4 years younger than me, and she had some Barbie dolls. I had my GI Joe.
Hugs,
Sharon Rose

On the barbie subject, recentaly (as in the last year or so) I saw on TV news about these specilized barbie dolls that where being made in limited quintes. They were dressed in lingerie. You know that some group gripped about the subject. However from what I know it was directed toward the collector but as usale people got all huffy just because it is a doll that is usally for girls.
Did any else see what I am talking about?

Hi all,
Sharon Rose,
I know there's a big market out there for Baby Boomer collectibles (including Barbies--and all the special interest mags devoted to the doll). As far as Mattel goes, it's strictly Hot Wheels for me (well, actually, I help my little bro shore up his own collection, as there's a lot of stuff available here that isn't in British-Columbia). I did own G.I. Joes as a kid... the ones with the "real" hair and beards. I also owned a lot of Major Matt Mason stuff--some of these figurines are now worth up to $1,000 US! My own tastes have more to do with pop culture "action figurines" (Lara Croft, Pinhead, Movie Maniacs, etc.) as well as classic board games.
I wouldn't shell out $275 on an outfit for myself; I'm not about to do it to clothe a doll.
Love,
CJ

If those clothes alone could make me look like Barbie, then sure, I even might...but in reality, they are still just some clothes. I'm sure they will sell, as this world is full of people who have bit too much money on their hands.
But to get that hourglass figure that Barbie has...I think we all need more than just clothes to achieve that.

Saw those pics on your other posting. I still crack up looking at them. It reminds me of when I was out shopping with a friend to the family around Halloween a few years back and she was putting the stuffed animals in not such pleasing poses at Wal-Mart.

Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons. As you are crunchy and good with chocolate!

Jahde. Just a little Barbie trivia for you. If you want to look like Barbie you would have to be 7ft. 2in. tall and have measuremnets of 39-26-36 with an 18 in. neck. That's what her dimensions would be if she were life sized.
