News From Aislin

Post by Aislin »

Well I finally made the leap.

I changed operating systems for good. as of January 01 2005 I am no longer a slave to Microsoft. My home network, desktop, browser etc.... are linux or part of the gpl.

Benefits so far:
Virus - my virus attacks have now become few and far between. Some of the sites I frequent seem to be virus/hacker magnets.
Internet browser - mozilla / Firefox rocks. The incidence of attack has gone way down. (Could be that a good firewall helps as well.)
Exasperation - While my frustration level has gone up, the amount I learn has gone up as well. I am now using the html and php to redesign my web site. Naturally I am enfemme to do this because the greatest insights come from my Fem side.(Hi-Five from Aislin.)

Just a note to let you know why I was gone for so long. I am now legal using only software I can afford under the various licenses.

This little note is important to any small business people out there. There has been an increase in advertising for the warranty validation program. It basically states that turning your employer in for improper use and copying of software is correct and supported by the powers that be. One must be aware thet Microsoft has also started to crack down on independent users as well. I have heard of several instances where private citizens have been sued in an effort to get them to license the software.

Sorry about the tirade, I do not want any friends to get caught in this situation. Especially those who cannot afford it. After all I would rather get a new outfit or payment on a cruse than have to pay some stupid fine.

Enjoy your day, the rest of the world may catch up.

Good for you, Aislin. I try to use licensed products as much as possible. It is a very slippery slope, and I will be glad when the technology is better at colllecting royalties from music users, too.

Hi Aislin,
I too am glad you are back. I had two computer guru's working on this mess I use for several hours on Saturday and they sure have improved it. They found a lot of "junk" that was neither spyware or virus, but whatever it was they removed it and now it seems to be working fine. I also found out that some of these viruses come with a twin and if you destroy either the other one automatically reinstalls its twin. What they did to eliminate the one I had like that I could not even begin to understand, but it worked, anyway again glad to have you amongst us again!

Hi Aislin,

Welcome back. :) I'm a MAC user and PC user for my games only. :)

It's good to see you around. Linux is a lot of fun when you get to know it. :) I agree about the software licensing, it kills in the microsoft world. :(

Anyways... again.. welcome back!!! :)
