Sunday news - your gonna die from something, Girls!

Post by Virginia »

Our local paper had an article which a lot of you may have seen. It came out under KnightRidder/Tribune. "FDA label may put a fresh face on cosmetic products."
Item: Mascara, which can contain ingredients linked or potentially linked to cancer. ( What the hell does that mean???)
Item: Liquid hand soap, which may contain ingredients suspected of raising the risk of breast and skin cancer. (Wash your hands or don't wash your hands??)
Item: Hair dye, which can contain coal tar, a substance that has been linked to bladder cancer and non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. (Say what??? Non- Hodgkin's. What does that mean?)
"A study last year by the Environmental Working Group (?who?) found that only 18 of 7,500 common cosmetics and toiletries has had all their ingredients fully tested for safety."
"The cosmetics industry does its own evaluations through an independent (?independent?) panel of experts whom it appoints, (the industry appoints these experts) called the Cosmetic Ingredient Review."
This is a $35 billion that's billion with a "B" industry!
As a wise sage once said: " You want to find out what is going on??!! - Follow the money!!!!!!"
Who stands to profit from publishing articles like this???Our government?
The industry itself?? Some small start-up cosmetic company that is squeeze hard by the "big boys/" Some environment "wacko" group? Women who for what ever reason do not or can not wear make-up?
Scientific research confirms the fact and it is induspitible that drinking water will kill all of us. It may take 100 years but you are eventually going to die so blame it on drinking water.
Lipstick: 28% of 711 products expamined contained ingredients that researchers say could be linked to cancer (see list).
Nail Polish: 71% 0f 123 products examined contained ingredients KNOWN to be , ?suspected? of being or possibly linked to birth defects. (see list)
Shaving products: 51% of 167 products examined contained penentration enhancers (?what?) (see list) which could increase exposure to possible carcinogens or other ingredients of concern.
Shampoo: ..."adverse health effects have not been fully studied by industry (whose industry???)

This stuff should fall into my pet peeves.

When I was growing up, hotdogs were going to give us all cancer. :)
Sure, if I was force fed about a thousand of them a year for five years.

Don't worry your pretty little head!

Living is bad for your health, you've got two choices; carry on living and risk your health; or jump off a bridge and save yourself from all that heartache.

Have a dram!! Its probably been linked to somebods disease, but it's nice!!

HI Sis,

You ask:
Who stands to profit from publishing articles like this???
Well first among them is your newspaper, and the person who wrote the article.

There are likely more of course, and without research (which I am not interested in doing,) we may never know all of them.

So continue to look your best, feel your best, and enjoy.

Love Darlene.

Hia Ladies ((G))

I have a questin on this...

Q) had the reserchers been watching batman and or is it a joke.. by the joker??...

If we worried about all that we wore (make up) pefume (perfume is partly made of urine) ect., all that we consumed (food & drink).. then we would all have bad skin, bad breath, smelled, depressed and starved or dehidrated to death.. so if we have to suffer to be happy.. (what a contradiction..lol).. so be it.. (just my opinion)
Life is for living.. i am going to grow old happy and disgracefully ..^..

I think that I understand Virginia's point.

With all the various forms of communication, the written word is perhaps the most powerful. Once written in a respect journal, magazine or newspaper, it rather becomes official for many. After all, "they" would not print something that was not true, would they!

I studied Chemistry in College and our Professor had a "bent" for the cosmetic industry and their use of various compounds. One of those items is [sodium laurel sulfate], which comes packaged in about 4 different forms. Bottom line, the base component is used by the automotive industry to clean grease from garage floors.

This component is the foaming agent in tooth paste, shampoo, and dozens of products. It costs pennies to produce and is made in bulk by two companies in New Jersey, USA.

There was a report that it may have links to cancer. Naturally, people jumped on the band wagon for about one year and clamoured about this compound and sister formulations. Those same people have moved on to other topics after running out of steam.

Most moisturizing products employ some form of mineral oil, that has been hydrogenated (like that of margarine) to make it disperse over the skin evenly and without leaving an oily feeling on the surface, while at the same time, blocking in moisture to the skin to keep the skin plump, firm and fresh looking.

A British chemist came out on "60 minutes," and told all about this particular portion of the cosmetic industry. He indicated that "lard" would be just as good, except for the smell perhaps, and the messy results on your clothes. Plus it may clog pores. But you would have radiant skin if you had DNA that provided such in the first place.

So I think you can only believe half of what you read and even less of what you hear in general. People talking and people reporting just to report and to talk. It would be nice to think that our tax dollars went to those that would support the common good through scientific means and reporting, but alas, it is still pretty much every woman for her self. Caviat Emptor....let the buyer/reader/listener beware! :) :) :)

Hugs
