Think about it -
9/11
The War in Iraq
The tsunami in Asia
The London Bombings
Hurricane Katrina
Now bear in mind that this has all taken place within the last 4 years. When else in history have there been so many disasters causing so many deaths in such a short time?
Mankind is officially an endagered species, sooner rather than later.

To me it seemed a little far-fetched & melodramatic, but I figure it's worth posting. Thoughts?

From what I recall - yes! That is true! I only wish I had more time to crunch the numbers to do a comparison...Darlene wrote:World War 2 = one disaster (with many inclusive disasters) that caused how many deaths? And, yet another place where Pogo's quote is appropriate... "We have met the enemy and he is us."Mankind is officially an endagered species, sooner rather than later.
I do believe mankind will be destroyed by mankind but, probably not in my lifetime.

In the scheme of things globaly only the tsuanmi is even worth mentioning. With all the people dying of disease, war, and starvation constantly and just about always, the other things are small potatoes. Think of Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia, Darfur.........................Think of the flu in 1919 which in a few months killed more people than all of WWI or the plague that killed half of Europe in the 1300's
People have refered to Katrina as "our tsunami" and even 9-11 as
"our Hiroshima" What totally uninformed comments The death toll in Hiroshima was about 20 times that of 9-11 in the first minute and kept climbing for years due to the after effects of radiation. The tsunami killed over 250,000, at least 25 times more than the current worst case projections for Katrina. Car bombs seem to kill as many people as the London bombing almost daily in Iraq.
The only thing remarkable about 9-11, London, and Katrina is that they happened to wealthy white countries, and even then we see that probably the majority of Katrina's dead were poor and often not white.
No disrespect at all to the dead. They are still dead no matter who they are.
