One or more of our ladies and i cannot remember which spacific ladies asked me (while the price of fuel was going crazy a few months back) how much on avarage our fuel was over here in the U.K. compaired to the U.S.A. prices..
We may pay more tax per litre for fuel here in the UK, but everything is relative to what thetaxation levelsare like for other commodities.
In Norwayfor example they tax food which is tax free in the UK.
The cost of living in Germany is far greater than here in UK. Housing is so expensive over there that 100 year mortgages are common. Here it is a more civilised 25years.
I would prefer to stay in the UK. But then I am biased.
You gals from other countries have been paying high gasoline prices for years. I hate to say this but we Americans are spoiled and a bunch of babies. Our gasoline prices are cheap compared to most countries around the world. The USA makes up 5% of the worlds population but uses 28% of the worlds energy. People keep buying bigger, faster and more powerful cars. Live in giant fully air conditioned homes with heated pools and tile floors so their little feet won't get cold. We have been given a wonderous planet that can provide everything we all need and we were chosen as the caretakers. Big mistake. Shame on us. Big hugs and Happy New Year.
The primary reasons for the price of gas going up in price is simple, we have a Texas Oil man as president. He has not only choked off the flow of oil from Iraq, but also continues to fill the "Stategic Oil supply". Add to that the fact that oil can only be purchased on the world markets in dollars, and the fact that Bush has devalued the Dollar by 40% on world markets, that means that other countries can spend the same amount in thier own currency, and still drive the price of oil up 40%.
While oil and gas have risen mildly around the world, they have not seen the doubling of the price we have seen here in the US. And many states charge as much as $.22 cents per gallon as a tax on top of the federal tax that I beleive is $.12 a gallon. While other countries do have much higher prices on gasoline, it is only because of huge taxes those countries place on it.
