Who knows indeed Absaroka!
By the way I really like the way you all responded.
I enjoy a good discussion, if you know what I mean.

CJ did all that stuff really come from space exploration?

I thought they spent their time growing crystals in a vacuum. I never did figure out the sense in that.

I deliberately didn't mention Katrina, that has been well covered elsewhere. It is a crying shame what has happened there!

Hey! I am planning to visit the USA at the end of this year, our eldest son has bought us a surprise holiday voucher for our Silver Wedding anniversary, so we hope to visit New York for a week.

This will be a trip of a lifetime, what could we accomplish in a week? Any ideas? By the way Kerri isnt coming, she will have to stay at home.

Talk to you all again soon.

Take care

Yes, all of that came either directly or indirectly from space exploration. Especially from manned exploration. Yes, much of what CJ listed might have been invented eventually, but the space program accelerated the research which created all of that as well as the computer I am typing on right this minute.

One example - water filtration systems - did you know that the water consumed by the astronauts on the space station mostly comes from their own recycled waste? The systems which do this not only have to be light weight and compact but, also, very efficient. Now, think of how this technology can be applied to help those earthquake victims in Pakistan. Not to mention the sewage treatment plants in virtually every major city in the world.

Sending men to the moon might not have been the most sensible use of our money in the 60's. But, if we hadn't my mother might be walking on a wooden peg leg today instead of her own natural leg with an artificial hip joint.

There is good and bad in everything. As bad as the development of nuclear weapons was, a lot of benificial technology came out of that as well. Where would the internet be if all those researchers, scattered all over the USA, hadn't needed an efficient way to communicate with each other?

Hi all,

Hmmm... I guess the whole point of this discussion--maybe slightly different from what Virginia originally intended--is that, yes, we have the means (or the technology) but do we have the wisdom or even the simple drive to use those means wisely?

The jury's still out.

Love,
CJ

Hi Kerri,

New York (also just known as the city) can be an awful lot of fun just to walk around in on a nice day. I have always just enjoyed looking at all the buildings. There is just about anything you want to do there so I would look up stuff pertaining to whatever your interests are. Probably a lot like taking a trip to London I would think.

The crime isn't nearly as bad as people sometimes think although there are places to avoid at night.

Museum of Natural History was always one of my favorites, you can look at rocks from the moon there along with life size giant squids and whales and dinosaurs.

If you like jazz there are places like Birdland or the VIllage Vanguard.

I think Lorna and Amelie Leveau live in the city, you could ask them about it
