Live Webcast
Hi All--
My band, the Ethel Merman Experience, will be on a live webcast on Monday, February 13th. It will be happening from 10:30 to 11:30pm, Pacific time, so it won't be too practical for most of you.
We're booked at a recording school here in the Bay area, so it's a student/instructor production. We're using it to get footage for a video demo, so we'll be playing two identical half-hour sets.
I'm sure we'll do our ZZ Top medley to open it--that's La Grange, Sharp-dressed man, Cheap Sunglasses, and Tush. We'll do at least one Led Zeppelin medley--either Black Dog/Rock n' Roll, or the Lemon Song/Livin' Lovin' Maid. We'll do either Seven Nation Army by the White Stripes, or Are You Gonna be my Girl, by Jet. Probably Teen Spirit by Nirvana, too.
For those of you near San Francisco, we'll also be playing at Ireland's 32 at Geary and 3rd, Saturday February 18th. We're on at either 10:30 or 11pm, and we'll play for about an hour and a half. Maybe I'll see some of you there!

Hi all,
Anita,
That's just awesome!
Although it'll be 2 am out here, I'll do my best to tune in. Will it only be a stream or will a downloadable version be available? (or is that a no-no?).
Seems I'm getting to know more musicians lately; my colleague Patricia's son, Ian Kelly, has a second album coming out in a few months and I've been taking some photos of the band. My boss's son also performs once in a while in various local clubs.
Ah, music! I couldn't live without it!
Break a leg, Anita! I'll be rooting from afar.
Love,
CJ

Hi CJ--
Streaming is all you'll get, I believe. It also makes it so you can't set up some TiVo-like device and record it for later viewing.
It is amusing to me that this webcast goes out all over the world, and there might be five people actually tuned in. Like the proverbial tree falling in the forest--if a band plays a concert and no one's around to see it, is there a sound?
They don't publicize the site in any way; it's strictly for their students to get hands-on experience in working with bands and cameras. It benefits us to get good video footage from this, and it's fun to do. I'm glad we'll be playing for a live crowd later that week, though.

Hi all,
It looks like I will be taking Tues the 14th off - it's Valentines day and my boss is encouraging me to use my time off because I will be retiring soon.
CJ,
I'm sure that Anita posted the date as Feb 13/14. So you already missed it? Does the Canadian calendar run a week or 2 faster than the US one, or did you catch a ride with a friend who has a DeLorean that does funny things when it goes 88 miles per hour?
Anita,
I like your probable set list If you are doing one Led Zeppelin medley, I would prefer to hear Black Dog/Rock 'n' Roll. Break a leg.

Thank you girls, for all the enthsiasm. CJ, you'll get out of the DeLorean
just in time to catch the REAL show, this coming Monday.
The set list is:
1. The ZZ Top medley
2. Smells Like Teen Spirit
3. Are U gonna be my Girl?
4. Shakin' all over--very Who-like, with some other influences thrown in.
5. Vertigo--U2's "ipod" commercial song, but still a good one
6. Black Dog/Rock and Roll
Ethel puts on quite a show. She's a good singer, in spite of all the comedic touches she's laying in there. I'm fun to watch, too. So pull up a chair come Monday!

Anita,
I watched and enjoyed it! I think it was a good, solid performance.
Near the end of the second set, My junkyard refugee PC started dropping frames but the audio was steady and uninterrupted.
Being a former guitar player, I was impressed with your guitar work and it looked like you were enjoying yourself. Ethel is certainly something else!
Will DVDs/music CDs be available?

Thank you, Jadeanne! I'm glad you got through--many people got a "Host unavailable" message.
That was a lot of fun. The Meyer theatre is the one that KFOG uses for their "Live from the Archives" series, so it's a wonderful sound and light system in there. They've had many recording stars in over the years.
I doubt we'll put this one out on DVD. It'll give us some good footage for editing. I found that I didn't like playing the same set twice, at all. I was torn between wanting to play different versions of the songs, while at the same time keeping to a formatted sound that would go good for a demo.
They made the guitar sound so good in there! With tone like that, the guitar plays itself. I had technical problems that messed up some scenes, but on the whole it was very successful. They would like us to come back, and we'll do some originals next time out. Tune in to hear my song about Lea, a T-girl out for her night on the town.

Anita, honey I am soooo sorry I missed it too, but like some of my sisters, late night and early morning responsibilities it just was not possible. I would have loved to hear you and most important to see you!!
Did you do, I think its just call "Legs" or She's got Legs" by ZZ TOP? Such a cool song and it can reference us - evidentlly getting swept up by some "saving grace" ' cause we are beautiful!
Rock on girl, you make us all proud!!!!!

Ya gotta put food on the table, Virginia!Virginia wrote:Anita, honey I am soooo sorry I missed it too, but like some of my sisters, late night and early morning responsibilities it just was not possible.
"Legs" would indeed be appropriate, but we don't have a keyboard player at the moment, and that's REAL keyboard driven. As for what we do--for some of us, it certainly is a "saving grace." If I have to deal with mid-life crisis, I definitely prefer this option to some of the other coping techniques I've seen men do.Did you do, I think its just call "Legs" or She's got Legs" by ZZ TOP?
