Here's a question that probably has nothing to do with CDing, although who knows....
I had a friend over for dinner last night and since she had been fishing that day we had fresh fish. We were talking about ways to prepare fish and agreed that we both like sushi. Then I said that actually I like beef the same way, namely uncooked. She got a slightly embarrassed grin and said so does she and described how she will bring a steak home from the store and sit at the table tearing it apart with her hands and teeth. Then she said something that sort of surprised me which was that she was of the opinion that a lot of people feel the same way.
It struck a chord in me with regard to discussion in other threads about men wearing panties. I imagine that there is a fair number of men who just like women's panties even if they don't feel a need to wear the rest of the outfit, dress, bra and etc. Just an alternative underwear with their guy clothes.....
We decided that next time we have dinner without my family (wife and daughter are semi vegetarians and would not understand, although my other daughter loves goat and buffalo and probably would feel the way we do) that we would just have uncooked steak with pineapple but to remain elegant we would use a knife and fork.
So I am curious and this forum is a great place to conduct a poll. I know my brother and sister both have the same tastes but I am wondering how many others feel the same way and just don't talk about it much because they are used to folks saying eeeuwwww.
So how many out there once in a while just prefer not to cook their steak or perhaps in fancy restaurants order steak tartare? ( It sounds so much more acceptable in French don't you think?)
No lectures on health please. No I don't eat pork this way since I don't want trichinosis and although I used to like chicken tartare I have stopped since they are such unsanitary creatures. And I am pretty careful about what kind of fish as well. I know you can get tapeworms from beef as my uncle had one, and e coli as well, just like you can get from spinach. But in all the years I've done this I haven't yet.

Hi Absaroka,
While I've never sat at the kitchen counter ripping apart raw meat with my fingers and teeth, and never actually eaten steak tartar, I like my steak essentially raw on the inside with a good char on the outside. I like the taste of the char but I think maybe its just because I'm sticking by the conventions set out by society that eating raw meat (especially without utensils) equals barbarianism. Hmmm, would you be more accepting of a woman who was truly a barbarian or wants dress like a man?

The raw facts are that even for people with good immune sysytems, there are dangers in eating raw food of any sort. Most meat, once frozen, should be safe, since freezing kills parasites such as round worms, tapeworms, etc., but not all bacteria. Even pork can be eaten safely raw after freezing - trichinella is killed. Fish is another matter, since freezing often destroys the flavor. Tuna is best eaten raw (sashimi), but is known to carry some parasitic worms - mostly infecting birds, but occasionally humans. Salmon is excellent raw, and is not harmed by freezing.
Raw molluscs (oysters, clams) can be unsafe if taken from polluted waters. I love raw oysters, but I will only eat them if the establishment is reliable and will not lie to me when I ask the origin of the critters.
The problem comes in the handling and processing. That's where bacteria, such as E.coli, get in. These days, it is probably safer to eat raw meat than raw vegetables.
The human digestive system is remarkable in being capable of feeding on almost anything. What is considered edible is often a matter of social custom.
Bon appetite,
Lydia

Terri those are good questions. Would I be more accepting of a woman who was a barbarian? We may have to agree on what the word means first. To me barbarianism is equated with torturing prisoners (considered womens work among Native Americans by the way) and infanticide and other such things and no I would not be accepting of that in any way shape or form. Maybe you just mean stepping outside of societal norms but still being a moral person accepting the do unto others as you would have them do unto you idea. I don't think I would have a lot of trouble with that.
As to would I be accepting of a woman who wants to dress like a man I do have one GG friend who actually does sort of female cross dress. Wears mostly mens clothing right up to wearing tuxes to weddings. But she presents as a woman in masculine clothing and would not consider herself transgendered. I don't have any trouble with that. My wife dresses like me a lot of the time-jeans and tees or sweats. Not a problem but again she presents as a woman.
The woman I had dinner with is someone I've talked about here before. She is a funny mix of traditionally masculine and feminine stereotypes. Likes fishing and hunting and doesn't own a lot of nice clothes or any real jewelry. Also very physical and foul mouthed at times. She has a bit of an aggresive streak in her and a former boyfriend who hit her got the crap beaten out of him by her in return. (After which I am glad to say she told him to get lost. No staying in abusive relationships for her) But I can't see her hurting someone unless they started the fight. She's really a very nice person.
A lot of men find her to be intimidating. At least she complains about that when we talk about dating and stuff. But I do not and I have always found her to be an emotionally cuddly person who I have been able to relate to on a level that I have not been able to with very many other people of either sex. Of course that took time-we've been friends for about half our lives now.
At one point before I met my wife we were lovers. And yes I found her very attractive. That aspect of the relationship was ended by her for reasons having to do with her that I won't go into but we remained close friends for the next few decades.
I'm married now. She and my wife are also pretty good friends. Yes if I let myself I could feel a lot of attraction to her. But friendships a lot more important to me than sex and my marriage is more important to me than either. But to answer your question yes I find all that attractive. My wife has many similar qualities expressed in different ways and so have many of the women I have been friends with over the years.
Not sure I answered your questions or even understood them correctly. This was really just meant to be a poll on eatng habits-I was wondering if this was another little secret folks have.

The closest I'll ever get to eating 'raw' seafood will be canned tuna fish - and only because that has preservatives!!
Raw meat? Uh unh!!

I have eaten raw steak and love sashimi. How ever when it comes to my steak I do love it just barely grilled. What I mean by that is get the grill good and hot throw the steak on and get a few grill marks and flip over and do the same thing. That is it.

Raw meat is not something which tickles my palate, although I always have my steak on the rare side of medium rare.
As for fish, well where I live on the South East Coast of Australia is a fish (both anglers and commercial) paradise. WE have the second largest fishing port in the country located here.
I mostly eat oysters fresh because the water they’re grown is has been scientifically tested as equal to the purest water anywhere in the world. http://www.southcoast.com.au/clyderiver/
I eat a lot of fish because of the Omega 3 fatty acid benefits but although I’ve never eaten raw fish (except for oysters), when I have fish it’s always lightly cooked to the extent that the translucent appearance disappears and it becomes opaque, overcooked fish to me is not appealing.
I’m very health and weight conscious, so my diet consists of only a couple of red meat meals a week, I prefer chicken and fish to beef, lamb or pork. I eat a lot of fresh raw vegetables and those which I cook are cooked just to the stage where the rawness isn’t apparent. Salads are also high on my dietry practices
Kind Regards,
Sally.
