Hi all,
I was among the many hit by the Buffalo area October Surprise storm a week ago and just today have power back so I can access the Internet.
The weather report was for a few light flurries - how about 2 feet of heavy snow instead!
The trees in the area still had most of their leaves, so down came the limbs taking out power lines for almost 500,000 homes, etc., and for the really unfortunate, huge tree limbs damaged cars and homes and blocked roads and streets.
My wife and I had no electricity from 5 PM on Thursday Oct 12 until 9 AM Today, Oct 19th. We had no property damage and our car was OK in our driveway. We didn't have heat but it didn't get that horribly cold. Inside our house it stayed around the mid 50's Farenheit, so we just added an outer layer of hooded sweatshirts.
We still had telephone service but I don't have a dialup Internet account so I couldn't go online with my laptop.
One night our next door neighbors invited us to dinner and we spent a nice evening with them. Last night they brought some hot food over.
It's great to be back!
Does anyone have any storm stories recent or past to share?

Welcome back, Jadeanne -
I was beginning to wonder why I hadn't seen you on the forum in quite a while - never connected it with the snow storm. Glad to know you and the wife are okay!!

I remember back many many years ago when we lived in St.Louis the forcast was snow flurries. By 11 in the morning we all were sent home because we have 8'' of snow already. What took about half and hour to go home took 3.5 hourse that day. Lines were down and lucky for us we were into camping so we had light, campstove, and a large tent heater. I will admit that was the worst I had ever seen it and I spent 16 months in Korea.

I thought you folks in Buffalo were used to that sort of thing.
I enjoy a nice snowstorm but the last week up there would have been a bit much for me, suburbanite that I am. I have a friend out in the Black Hills however who routinely does the whole "8 days minimum of canned food and water for everyone in the house" every winter. And I have family who lives on the Gulf coast who about now are feeling relieved that things went okay this fall. They get real tired of evacuating but they are the ones who chose to live only 6 miles from the ocean.
