Well this is in the non cd topics because....
It's February vacation again, the time of year my wife takes the kids down South to visit grandma. The usual CD vacation of everyone else leaves and I stay home and play dress up. Except this time she left the kids with me.
In the past this has been difficult. Although I have a pretty good relationship with my daughters the usual scenario is the older compulsively out going daughter spends the week anywhere but home while the younger reclusive stays home bemoaning her lack of friends and refusing to talk to me because she doesn't want to seem like a loser who has only her dad to talk to. Plus she wonders why she can't be as popular as her sister.
Well this time the first evening both girls stayed home and we played Risk. Mundane but fun. The 2nd day I gave them some money and they took the train to Manhattan and ran around all day. They ahd a blast while I worked. Then the oldest went away for a couple of days but the younger one was quite happy and very talkative with me. She had a couple of friends over and when we were alone we had pleasant conversation, sat by the fire talking and reading and that sort of thing. Yesterday we had about 8" of snow and without being asked she shoveled the whole driveway because she knows my back and knee have been bothering me. So I guess there is hope for teenage girls.......
Seriously it was a wonderful vacation and I loved it.
