Yes, it looks like we are going to be hit pretty hard with this one. Harris County just announced Mandatory Evacuation of 8 zip codes in the county.

Well, it looks like Ike is definately going to hit us straight on... :( I've never been in the path of such a big storm and I'm a little worried. I'm glad we finally bought a generator a few months ago especially since they are predicting major power outages for weeks or months... :( We're all stocked up on food and water and are ready for the monster.

Thanks for all your well wishes and keep us in your thoughts and prayers and hope that Houston and Galveston doesn't end up looking like Cuba and Haiti... [-o<

I'll let you all know how we weather the storm...

Good luck Kandis...Keep safe...

By the way, this is what's scary, the storm isn't even close and the streets of Galveston are already under water...

Hang on Kandis, Sharon, and anyone else in the area. Stay safe.

Galveston is like New Orleans and other places around the coast down there. Just waiting for their turn. I will visit those coastal areas instead of living near them. At least with a tornado we can be safe in our basements and not be under water.

Well, it's 9:00 PM and so far so good, the wind is really picking up out there right now, and we are just waiting for the eye of this one to hit us. some of the data stations along the coast are down so they cannot tell us what the wind speeds are down there. I'll try to keep updates posted as long as the power holds up, and then until my laptop battery runs out of juice. This is a big one ladies, and right now it is 1 mile per hour windspeed shy of being a Category 3.

All my sisters in the area, stay safe and please keep us updated if you can.

Left North Central Fla on Wednesday. Just some annoying rain. Could not play golf, so I left.

Gay bar becomes a haven in storm-ravaged Galveston
GALVESTON, Texas (Reuters) - As Galveston told its remaining residents on Monday to leave the Texas island devastated by Hurricane Ike, Robert's Lafitte, a gay bar, was planning a pre-curfew drag show and Tina Turner sing-along.

The first of two bars to reopen after Ike's onslaught on Saturday, Robert's Lafitte is a haven in the storm -- for gays, straights, anyone who needs a place to drink and find comfort.

"You can see there's not too much worry and stress on people's faces," said Dixie Monroe, a transgender barmaid who wore a tiger-print cowboy hat and a low-cut top.

Outside, Black Hawk helicopters clattered overhead and emergency teams searched for people stranded in the flooded city of 60,000 people. Up the street lay a huge field of splintered wood.

Big Mouth Robert, the establishment's owner and a former female impersonator, said the bar took 3 feet (1 metre) of water and closed when Ike's fury blew out the windows. But after a mop-up the next morning, Robert's Lafitte was back in business.

"All of our customers kind of demanded it," said Robert. "It's their bar and they kind of dictate what's going on. We're survivors."

Tina Turner is the artist of choice at the bar, given that she survived another Ike -- her abusive husband Ike Turner.

The bar is setting out food donated by locals for people in need. Some 20,000 people are thought to be still on the island and food and water are scarce.

"It's more than a life saver. This is like the Coast Guard," said Brian DeLeon, a straight restaurant worker who had not visited the bar before.

"These are the people who take you up out of the water and make life livable. Once I get back to work, I'm coming back here."

Well, we survived, still have no power at the house, but the water we did take in was able to be cleaned up easy enough. Not sure when we'll have power back again, they are saying could be 3 weeks.

Glad to hear you came thru it OK. We went thru the same thing with Gustaf. Stayed here thru it with no appreciable damage other than watching trees, big trees fall all around me. Was without power for 7 1/2 days.
