Hi all,
Virginia,
You're absolutely right. When you think about it, almost anything we (humans) do, we do because "it's there"; from the migrations of the Neanderthals to the launching of interstellar probes, we always seek out and then push back our limits. I think the reason we get into trouble sometimes is that we don't always take the time to evaluate whether or not the "there" where the "it" is found is actually a good place to want to go. But go we must, eh?
Curly,
When I was a young mmMMm..a young mmmnnggnn... a young mmaannggnn... oh hell! a young person, I spent four and a half months tooling around Western Europe. I hitchhiked, mostly, but also took trains and buses as I worked my way (sshhh... don't tell anyone!) down from Amsterdam to Malaga. (Those Spanish trains with the church pew seats are a blow to the lower back, I have to say... but Roxanne--who's half Indian--told me that I haven't experienced a hellish train ride until I've taken a rail trip around India.) I loved travelling through Europe. I only saw four countries in those four months, though; The Netherlands, Belgium, France, and Spain, as I travelled mostly in a southerly zig-zag. When I was in Calais, in the north of France, I could, in fact, see the white cliffs of Dover, and, today, I find it a stupid decision on my part not to have paid a visit to the lower British Isles--to London, especially. To think, I could've waved to you from where I stood on the cliffs of Calais (not that you would've seen anything, of course!).
My Dad says: "Tell your friends Curly and Honor that the gear is packed; the beer is in the cooler; the flies in the tackle box; the canoes by the water." Heh. No, not really; the lakes here are still frozen solid. Come spring, maybe.
Regarding the "bucket list," I would imagine that many forum members would have some transgender-related item or other on this list. Am I wrong? Spend a week
en femme, or some such thing? Input, gals, please! What is
your "only rational response to getting old"?
Love,
CJ
