Carol Ann, you should try frying in butter, that's how we did it in Alaska when I was stationed there, huddled in squad tents with a red hot Yukon Stove's, fueled with JP4 we swiped from the helos. Never thought it tasted like chicken though, but at -40 deg, with a hot meal, no one cared. I did find that a nice big snowshoe hare could feed 3 or 4 hungry, cold, wet GI's.

Plus, we got a little extra income from the pelts.

P.S. Of course, those were in the distant ages before the discovery of cholesterol.

Hey Violet
That is a fabulous idea! Genetically grown porterhouse steaks. I'm going into my lab right now to get started after I find my Bunson burner.
Curly. That's how you stay so slim and trim. I'm almost a vegan. After paying everybody elses bills ,I'm livin' on chicken and wine and I'm runnin' out of chicken.
I have have to run. A squirel just got tagged by a car out front. I have to get it before the crows get to it. I'll tell the monkeys it's rabbit stew. Hugs ladies.

Ladies I'm sorry I kicked over the milk bucket BUT !!arg!!

All this fuss over rabbits, our fore fathers would be proud of some of you. Gee I wonder how they survive without a supermarket on every corner?.

Hmmm... Carol Ann, didn't your forefathers pick cherries from trees in order to survive? (or something like that?).

Just kidding.

Here I am, surviving on soybean nuts and cigarettes. Does that count as vegan? Again, just kidding. Yes, I do eat meat, and have, indeed, had rabbit stew before. But I'd rather leave the bonking and dermapeel to professionals (or amateurs with a penchant for such things).

What I find, uh, disquieting, is the glee with which folks will talk of skinning critters. Comparing disembowelment techniques ain't no subject that'll ever grace the pages of Cosmo, methinks.

To each his or her own, I guess. 8-[

I can't help but feel that slaughtering animals is damaging to a person's empathy and sanity (&possibly spirituality/karma/state of grace.)
OTOH, I can has cheezburger. Beyond the fact that I likes my meat, & that humans evolved to be meat eaters and have survived for millennia by killing and eating animal flesh (contra natura is always a weak defense), I can find little moral justification for carnivory.
I have never understood why some people feel such malice toward vegetarians & animal rights activists. Maybe it's all that repressed guilt. But then, it always pisses me off when such people get up in my face calling me a murderer or worse. It's a complicated issue that's for sure.

If we do not compare techniques how do you think we learn to do it the easiest and most humane way. You do not want the critter to suffer do you.

Carol, our cat will solve this issue for you. She loves baby bunnies and use to get more than her share in the spring time. Once in a while she would bring an extra one around for us to eat. I guess paying us back for the food we give her the rest of the year. I sure wish she could still get them as the bunny population has come up in our area the last few years. She can no long see to get them unless we put her on top of a nest. She is far sighted to the point she is basically blind up close.

Interestingly she really likes chicken also.

First, anyone who can train a cat to hunt for them has the patience of Job! (sorry, that's a Bible analogy)

Second, I am firmly convinced that duck hunters are certifiable!!! They are indeed nuts! I mean who gets up at 3:00am in the morning and of course it has to be between 27 and 31 degrees, with at least four inches of snow on the ground and your luck evidently is suppose to improve if it is sleeting and or snowing when you get to the small metal boat that takes your now wet to the knees and frozen rear-end out on to an ice laden river in the dark where your frozen hands drop the oar overboard and it is too dark to see it float away so you are at the mercy of the ice choked river and then it really gets bad!!!!............................ well that is what I heard happens to duck hunters!!!!

Third, I had a nutso friend of mine actually leap out of a tree with his knife in his teeth on to the back of a deer that was standing under his tree stand. But that's another story!!!!

The absolute worst thing I have ever voluntarily eaten was boiled sea urchin ------- 'scuse me I gotta go puke just thinking about it!!!!!!

Love,

Virginia

Yeah, funny how the mere mention of disemboweling & skinning baby bunnies sets some people off, huh.

Ok, I'll be good.
