Hmmm . . . guess it's my turn!

1. Like Virginia, I wonder what 'Fates' kept Virginia and I from meeting years ago. It was love at first sight, and we'll be enjoying our honeymoon for the next 101 years! I love you, Virginia!

2. I am a native-born Motor City gal (Detroit, MI to the non-Americans), and a 4th generation Michiganian (note it is not "Michigander" - a pet peeve of mine).

3. I love to paint, especially the OneStroke method by Donna Dewberry; I tend to make things more for family and friends than I do for Virginia and myself. I am a "Jill of all crafts, master of none."

4. I've traveled the US visiting many national parks and monuments in numerous states, and my foreign travels consist of Canada, Mexico, and Germany; I look forward to being able to do more traveling with Virginia.

5. I enjoy being a powerlifting coach and training partner for Virginia, and I am starting to compete, also . . . but not to the same degree as Virginia. My goal is to become a certified state referee, and then a national referee.

6. My idea of 'casual dress' includes wearing a skirt and high heels, especially in the summer.

7. My favorite music is bluegrass, country, Celtic (love the bagpipes!), and pop . . . and my favorite singer is Neil Diamond.

8. Because my blood is still so thin (from living in FL for 10 years), our apartment is heated to 78F during the winter . . . and I rarely turn on the A/C in the summer (but always did in FL). ***huh***

9. My favorite gems are sapphire (blue or white), amethysts, emeralds, or diamonds, and I wear silver more than gold (duh!).

10. I enjoy riding on Virginia's motorcycle and boat . . . and with gas prices going even higher, I know we'll be on the motorcycle more than the boat this summer (and carpooling for work, too).

Thanks for sharing Jackie,

but......... Mexican everyday! doesn't that drive your friends away!

as for jumping out of a perfectly good airplane, knew a guy that did that with a bunch of other guys at a place called Ft. Benning. He was at 3500 feet when he jumped ----------- had what I think they called "a streamer" his 'chute never fully deployed! He lived!

He said his sergeant ran up to him expecting to see a "bag of broken bones" and all the sgt could say was, "Are you all right!?"

His answer was priecless: "Damn, that's gonna leave a mark!"

Honorable discharge, permanent disability (one leg is three inches shorter than the other) but he does great!

Hey DeeDee
You're quite bold Hon. It's only 10 things and you threw in number 11. Shame on you!
As for your friend Virginia who has one short leg. Big deal! I have two!
Mexican food reminds me of Davey Crocketts last words at the Alamo.

aww shucks Jeannie...thats me, pushing the envelope. Virginia has a short leg?? Golly gosh. My GF says she has a "hollow leg"...so I let her drive. Keeps me outta jail. Landscapers are everywhere, but they change the signs on their old Nissan pickups depending on whats happening. Same guy is a roofer one week..pool guy the next. BTW, a redneck swimming pool is a pickup bed caulked to hold water, as long as the gun rack is above the water line.

Hmm, ten things about me that don't have anything to do with being TG.

1. I love to read. I mostly read fiction, but I go through phases of reading non-fic too, mostly history and philosophy.

2. I love to take pictures. They conned me into becoming the staff photog for the yearbook my junior year of high school, and somehow I got the bug. It sort of fizzled out while I was married, but I got a digital camera for Christmas a couple of years ago, and now I take it everywhere.

3. I am a serious aviation nut. If it flies, it's cool. Airliners, cropdusters, fighters, helicopters, etc are all of enormous interest. Just reading that some of y'all are pilots or airborne or whatnot makes me feel all warm and fuzzy. When I lived in Charlotte, I volunteered a lot at the Carolinas Aviation Museum, right by runway 18L at CLT. It was a lot like heaven must be.

4. I'm a dedicated scifi geek. Star Wars, Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica, Stargate, Firefly, et al, ad nauseam. I love it all.

5. I'm a cat person. I grew up around dogs, but I came into my own as an adult as a cat owner. Dogs are cool to play with, but a cat will go to sleep on your chest when you need him to.

6. I like to build models. This dovetails neatly with items 3 and 4, as the subjects I build tend to be either aircraft or robots, though I've done a few tanks as well and I'd like to try my hand at ships. Unfortunately, like a lot of hobbyists I know, my collection grows a bit faster than I tend to build. I've got about 70 unbuilt kits in the stash.

7. I'm fascinated by machines and technology, but I am not the least bit mechanically inclined. I can do minor car repairs, like changing tires, but for anything else, I'd just as soon pay someone who knows what they're doing.

8. I love movies and TV. Yes I watch a lot of scifi, but I also enjoy police procedural shows and historical movies. I even like the odd musical.

9. I am agnostic. I like the idea that we're not alone in the Universe, but I'm not terribly impressed with any one religion. Most of the have their merits, but they also have their flaws, and none of them appeal. This is somewhat ironic, as I've been told twice in the last year that I would make a fairly charismatic minister. Maybe I should start my own religion.

Naah.

10. I've been single again since my divorce in 2005. People keep telling me that my right person in out there somewhere, but I haven't met them yet. I'm not sure I want to.

Hi all,

So let me get this straight, Jaye: you're a Browncoat (do you also aim to misbehave?) who uses the Force? Someone who wishes Commander Adama respected the Prime Directive? Do your model robots have positronic brains? Do you remember the episode of Lost in Space where Will Robinson and Zachariah Smith, both shrunken, found themselves wandering inside the Robot?

Good to know there's another science-fiction fan out there.

Love,
CJ

CJ,

Um. Erm. Something like that.

I try, as much as possible, to keep my scifi separated. I have, however, been known to use the words "frak" and "gorram" in the same conversation. :)

I'm really looking forward to the release later this year of the Clone Wars movie, and the follow-up TV series. The new Star Trek movie looks interesting, but I read somewhere that the release has been pushed back from December to next summer.

As for Lost in Space, I hardly remember it. The original series didn't make much of an impression (I hated Dr. Smith), and the re-imagined movie was a special effects project, with little story. I did enjoy watching Gary Oldman chew up the scenery, but I can watch him in anything.

CJ lots of folks here at one time or another have talked about liking sci fi. Of course there are so many categories. Just as Star Trek and Star Wars are vastly different creatures, so is Andre Norton vs. Arthur Clarke vs. Robert Heinlein vs H G Wells. But aside from it being a guy thing and expressing our masculine side also maybe sci fi attracted us because of the sense of limitless possibility; something that we sometimes talk about or feel frustrated with in regards to gender. After all in folks like Heinlein and Norton could have had a lot of fun writing about us.

Heinlein did, sort of. The first instance I know of is in Stranger in a Strange Land, where the nurse protagonist sneaks Valentine Michael Smith out of the hospital disguised as a nurse. Then there's the short story "All You Zombies" about an intersexed character who time travels (it actually predates Stranger by a couple of years). Last (that I know of) is I Will Fear No Evil, published in 1970. A wealthy dying man has his brain transplanted into a healthy young body. His beautiful young secretary is murdered, and he gets her body. That's just in the first twenty pages or so, so I'm not giving anything away.
