I know. Something must be about to go wrong. It always happens!!!

Karin, don't know about 8000 years to pay it all off, it may take longer...

One more gold and we equal our Beijing score, which is a major major success thingy for Team GB.

Question is, will we get another gold? And if so who's it gonna be? * hoping it's the ultra cute Vicky Pendleton who's in with a chance of adding to her existing gold in the cycling. She's awesome. *-*

Absolute radio is a channel I listen to at work, and they said at the outset of the games quite mockingly, that if Team GB won twenty golds, they would have a Spandeau-thon. This means playing the song "gold" by Spandeau ballet twenty times on the trot. One for each medal. When they said this, they didn't think itd actually happen hahahaha. But now?, now? They're wondering hahahahaha ..^..

I dont think I was negative about it at all, Ive always been a fan. The only thing that I didn't like, I still don't, and that's the way the corporate powers that be dictated certain things instead of leaving it be. For instance, we had to have the American star "will I am" carry the torch, along with a few other american stars. Nothing personal, but that's not what I wanted to see here. I wanna see the lollipop lady who hasn't missed a days work in forty years, or other local heroes carry the torch through their locality. For the most part this is how it was done, in keeping with the Olympic mentality, but the way they dictated a few areas was wrong IMO?

Speaking as someone who had a little bit to do with Sydney 2000, I think London 2012 has done brilliantly. Also good is that Oz has now climbed above the Kiwis and Kazakstan.

I've always loved the Olympics and in all honesty I have to admit to wondering if we'd dork it out or screw things up, maybe just paranoid but we have a history of taking ages to build stadiums and infrastructure etc. I have got to admit. I'm totally blown away by these games =D> =D> I loved the opening ceremonies, and the sports have been wonderful. I don't remember seeing so many records getting hammered from all angles before? Weightlifting, rowing, cycling and swimming. And our athletes in particular? Wth happened? So many amazing stories and there's such a buzz here about it, I don't think this country will ever see another moment like this. Wonderful stuff \:D/
(ducks back in hoping no-one noticed she'd been gone.......)

Karin if I had to sum up my feelings towards 2012 this would be the way I'd do it, your words could have come from my head. Usually we are a little 'behind the curve' but London 2012 has been a bloody triumph in every possible way. We started off watching a bit here and there but after the first couple of days found we just couldn't leave it alone. I've lost too much sleep this last fortnight watching everything and anything, dancing around the kitchen when we win and laughing and shedding a few tears. It's amazing, really fantastic.

God knows what I writing this for...

I've never really been interested in athletics. For quite a period I was pretty interested in team sports (like rugby, cricket, football), even kind of obsessive about them. I guess that's because I've never been much good as an individual competitor, much better in groups.

I think what the actual athletes have done is very good. What I don't like is all the business that surrounds the event. I mean that both in the sense of the money and in the sense of the triumphantalism that has appeared in some of the coverage (say on the BBC with the medal table) and, also, to a degree, in the torch relay.

I also kind of feel there is a degree of illusion to the whole event. Like if we're good at sports then we must be good at the other stuff in the world (as Brits) - which I don't think is necessarily true - and which tends to block out the economic (and other) problems of this country.
Socrates: The highest wisdom is to know that you know nothing.

Bill and Ted: That's us, dude.

anthony i think it is the hope that the olympics will be a great boost to ur economy!
it cant heart when the entire world sees a beautiful country and witnesses how well the olympics went
in terms of the illusion it creates i think u miss the point. it show the dtrive for excellence and that with hard work and determination one can reach the sky! and i admire that and hopefully we all can draw strength from it no matter what i situation is in life

Nobody does jingoism like us Brits, I wasn't interested when the Olympics were in other countries, I'm not much more interested now I'm paying for then. There have been some terrific performances, e.g. Jamaica wining all three medals in the 200m, but personally I would prefer to watch amateurs in a tug-o-war
