Serious topic: REAL nervous about tomorrow's court date

Well, tomorrow marks another court date. Tomorrow I will find out what happens to me. :?

If I don't answer to any e mails or posts for a year, then we will all know what happened.

I really hope it doesn't come to that. But then again, I haven't had much in the way of good luck lately... I have seen more than a lifetime of personal disasters in the past 2 years.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that I'm scared. I feel like I'm on trial for murder. I don't even think my lawyer knows what is going to happen. It doesn't look good.

I guess I shall find out my fate tomorrow evening.

I wish you the very best in your court appearance. I have some knowledge of how the criminal justice system works, although the details vary from state to state, and I know more about Georgia than New York. But in a case that would be considered “low priority” by a District Attorney (and DUI is hardly of the same priority as, say, conspiracy to highjack an aircraft), it is useful to know what the DA’s motives are likely to be. She or he wants a conviction on something, because an DA’s career is likely to depend on her or his conviction record. But that does not rule out — and in fact it makes more likely — that this person would be willing to bargain, dropping the most serious charges and perhaps agreeing to a minimal penalty. From her or his point of view, a conviction is a conviction, even if it is on a lesser charge of some kind. Without knowing the specifics of your situation, my main thought (besides wishing you the very best) is that you keep in mind the possibility of giving the prosecutor what he or she wants, but with reduced charges and minimal penalties.

Take care and let us know how it goes. No matter what happens, you can rest assured that this forum will remain a friendly place for you. I will be thinking of you, and I am sure that many, many others will be, too.

Heres wishing you well, and hope to here from you real soon.

Let's hope this is simply a case of the anticipation being worse than the event, Lorna. It is a reasonable hope, after all. :)

Yours,
Celia

Hi Lorna--
I hardly ever get into this section, and so missed your post.

I don't know how serious your charges are, but I do know that you have a strong sense of self going for you. You come across as having integrity, and that shines through either in clubs or in courtrooms. That has got to help when dealng with this. If you're asked to give further explanations, or to make a statement of any kind, you've got this quality in your favor.
