Too bad if your husband deserts you , looks like your church will follow suit .

I can kinda understand the whole 'gotta keep the gays out!' thing, based on the 'homosexuality is wrong, says so in the bible, yada yada yada.' angle most churches take...it doesn't make it right, of course, but single mothers? I wonder how much of it would apply if the tables were turned, be it a single father with his kids, because of whatever circumstances that made that situation. I'm guessing it'd be hypocrisy of the highest magnitude & not a word would be said to him.
Of course, expecting hypocrisy out of organized religion at any level wouldn't be out of the question either.
Are churches & other religious organizations in Australia tax exempt, like they are here in the states? I believe, over here, if you're not willing to take whoever in, that 'believeth in the lord', and all that jazz, loving, caring, helpful and so on and so forth, then the tax exempt status needs to go away for em'...but that's part of a perfect world, and is never gonna happen.

And yet many churches turn a blind eye to adultery, especially that which results from remarrying, even though the Bible mentions adultery some 45 times or so.

I had written a statement that would likely have sent this thread to Hot Topics, but will just make an alternate statement in agreement with Donna. Organizing ones life on the basis of selective passages from an antiquated mythology is not logical nor intelligent. But then organized religion is a matter of faith, is it not?
P. T. Barnum or which ever of those late 19th century/early 20th century entrepenures actually said "There's a sucker born every minute" had it right!

The biggest problem with faith based discrimination is that, every year there are new minds to corrupt.

Someone, picking and choosing what to enforce and what not to enforce? Sounds like more of that rampant hypocrisy...lol

Worst case scenario involved a work friend of mine...
My work friend is catholic and his wife is not , at the time , his priest refused to marry them because she was not of their faith , after my friend continued to pressure the priest he finally agreed under the following conditions:
(1) the marriage must NOT take place on church grounds
(2) Any children must be brought up Catholic
The terms were agreed and they were wed to the displeasure of the church.
Now the priest resides in Ararat Prison after been found guilty of having sex with young boys.
My work friend was mentally devastated by that news.
