Thanks for that post, Wendae. I put up my flag today and only one of three on the whole block....sigh. BTW, I'm a combat vet, pilot wise from long ago...VietNam, so its a big day for me to remember my buddies that never came back. A lady at work today said "thank you" to me, knowing I was a vet...and it kinda threw me for a moment...I'm not used to that at all!!!! I thanked her and teared up a bit. So thank you...all our veterans....its a special thing you all did!!!!

We have had a (little) rain here in the mountains of Virginia and a power outage so I could not respond yesterday.

Us vets who had friends that made the ultimate patriotic sacrifice will never, NEVER forget. I lost my best friend in college in Nam, he was a B-52 pilot! Godspeed Ronnie!!!!!

Thanks for all the support, ladies!!!!

A large part of the UK came to a halt at 11pm on the 11th, I did myself. We owe it to the men and women who gave everything for our freedoms. For those who believe women didn't die in WWI all I say is go to see the Lady Chapel in York Minster, the row upon row of names there show thousands of women also paid the ultimate price.

God bless you all.

We will never forget

Since I got married (11-11-00) it's been a day of mixed emotions for me. Luckily my wife understands my desire to remember those who sacrificed everything for us. It was a family tradition that we would join others at the local cenotaph for remembrance services. Even after my Father passed away I went there, this time with extra poppies.

We will be heading off to a secluded part of a local creek tomorrow with flowers, after a few prayers the flowers go into the creek.

Then it's off home where I'm cooking an anniversary dinner.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.

At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.

For me it's not really a happy day as this old paratrooper has to many bad memorys of days passed and fallen brothers I will never seen again but can only remember.

Still I am proud to have given 13 years before I had enought, _P

On this Veterans Day, I too wish to express my thanks to all who have served in the past and to those who are serving now. To all who have made the ultimate sacrifice to which has made this country great.

But also to the " forgotten " veterans like myself, who served in non combat areas. Although we may not have been in harms way, we served with pride and honor as did our fighting forces but somehow are never given thanks.

So here's to ALL veterans, combat or not, I salute you, I thank you, and I am proud to consider myself a part of this brotherhood.

Thanks to all who have served. As Char said and the forgotten Vets who stood behind those who fought. It takes a lot of people to support those who are in the fight and the support personal can be called at any time to go into combat.

I salute all who have served.

For those of us who served in the armed forces, it was an experience that cannot be forgotten. It was a time to grow old in a hurry. It was a time to see things that one never knew existed.

I heard it said by one veteran that he wouldn't take a million dollars to give up the experience, and you couldn't pay him a million dollars for him to go through it again. I agree with his brief summary. Serving in the military changed me in ways that I wished I'd never been changed. Innocence was lost.

In war, worst of men must fight, and the best of men must die. That includes applies to all who serve in combat zones.

May God have mercy on us for what we had to do.

Its the day after Veterans day, but every day is veterans day as far as I'm concerned. Now as far as support people, they are veterans also and could have been put in harms way very easily, so I guess I neglected to thank them also. Plus we couldn't exist without our "Radar OReilleys" :) Many times we had attacks on our base and everyone did what they had to do...so thanks ALL veterans!!!!! I'm not so sure what our motives were (as green stamped soldiers) but we did so much care for each other!

Oh, BTW, helicopter crews were classified as support personel also. It had to do with saying we ONLY had x amount of combat troops there, so lots of semantics..lots of BS....but again thanks all that served. And that goes for dear ones also...moms, dads. wifes, husbands, kids it was probably harder for them....so honor everyone involved with a deployment~~~~
