Tough decision.

Post by Wendae »

I've had a number of pets over the years and many have passed on. It gets harder to put one down when they have been your best friend and bed buddy. I had to have Dolly my Rat Terrier put to sleep today. After $1850 and no end in sight for the tests to find out what was wrong I had to say enough. :( She was a good kid. I still have a Chihuahua and 4 cats but she will be missed deeply.
It made me think of these end of life meetings that is being mentioned. So how will I react when some clown says that the treatment you need is going to cost to much so your insurance won't cover it? I'm on Medicare and it looks like it will be a real possibility.

I'm sorry about your loss Wendae. I've felt the same way about my cats.

As for the end of life meetings they have them now. It's just that they are held in policy meetings at insurance company and we aren't invited to them.

Hi Wendae,

Yes, I guess most of us have lost pets and they are just as much a member of the family as, well, family. It is good that you have other pets that will share their devotion with you.

Animals are so great, not the least bit judgemental whether you're wearing slacks or a dress.

Love,

Ten cats have graced our home since 1983:

Feline Leukemia claimed one,
two died of stroke,
one died of old age,
Feline Infectious Peritonitis claimed one,
A reckless truck driver claimed one with his truck,
Cancer claimed one (at age 18 ), and
Wild animals apparently claimed one.

One still craps on our carpet, and one still claws the good furniture until physically removed. Only cat lovers will understand why we grudgingly tolerate such abuse.

I was there for five of these passings. Four of them were accelerated with some assistance from our gifted and loving veterinarian. Our vet agrees: It is never easy.

Money can sometimes extend life, but at life's end, money hardly ever extends a life worth living. It is more loving to end suffering than to prolong it.

Hugs,

Bernice
