our mountain

The other evening, I typed in on Google, the name of our mountain, city and state and up popped a satellite option view. I clicked on it and it allowed focusing in or out. Now we have gotten topo maps off the Internet but this - this was scary. The "scan" was evidently done some eight or so years ago, long before we moved here. But zooming in from god knows how high up, you can actually see someone standing in our driveway! #-o Can you imagine what some of the current military satellites can do???

There is a ?telephone/cell tower? switching tower on a hill about a mile or so from us. I zoomed in on it and damn, it looks like some kind of military complex, a couple of big trucks and two fairly large buildings and very remote in a somewhat well hidden area of the mountain with only one winding, dirt access road. I asked the contractor who was doing some grading for me (he has lived around here for 18 years) if he knew about it and he said he did that it was, as far as he knew, just that, a telephone.cell tower switching station and the companies involved used the buildings for "storage." I think he is a CIA plant? :-k   I told him the person in the satellite picture kind of looked like him! He did not think that was too funny! I did though!

I have not been up there but if I do go and I see the sign " Use of Deadly Force Authorized! - No Trespassing!" well I can take a hint!

I also found a "church" on my satellite recon. It is on the next ridge A fairly large building back in sort of a canyon with only a long winding dirt road access. It is on the backside of the cell tower complex. Maybe after they shoot you they go to church to ask for forgiveness?

Interesting times we live in and live around! If they are spying on us, Virginia can really fog up their lenses now! =D>

Loose lips sink ships??

Love ya all,

Virginia

Hi girl friend,
Understand what you are saying as I have done the same thing with Google Earth photo's, very out dated.

Carol use a new updated topo and compass when I go out into the deep woods, never leave home with out them. [-X

A few weeks ago, I was bored , so I took a google street level tour of Fairbanks, Alaska. I'll bet if I suddenly had to go there, and wanted to go out for pizza, I could hop into a rent-a-car and find the place pretty easily.

Omygosh! My lips are Loose! Man the pumps! No, not the patent ones.....

Yes, Virginia. These are scary times. Privacy is all but gone.

I used Google Earth to figure out exactly where I had been, when you brought me to your beautiful mountain.

Google Earth even has a history feature that lets you examine the same area at different times, each time the database is updated with new images, usually several years apart.

I tried going back to 1970 at Cocoa Beach FL, trying to remember the motel we stayed at for the Apollo 13 launch. (I was 16 then.) No, they only go back to about 1994, I think.

Hugs,

Bernice

Yeah!! I love Google Earth.. On the ground view you can count the number of bags of leaves I put out for recycling last fall. And check out Bing Maps! And Esri's Arc GIS explorer.. Its amazing the detail. I can now see what my neighbors have built in their back yards!
