Music from the 50s and 60s
I love the music from the 50s and 60s, and in parallel to the "What are you listening to" thread, what are your favorite songs from this era?
I'll start off with this one which featured in Back to the Future 1:

If you're old enough to remember them that is!!!
Before you say it, the one in BTTF1 was by Marvin Berry & The Starlighters. I know, but the Penguins was the original from 1954. Marty McFly was best on the guitar!

Re: Music from the 50s and 60s
I just posted about that one in another forum yesterday.
My wife as satellite radio in her car, and I usually put it on the 50's or 60's channel. Or the Elvis channel. But I like music from most genres.
So I really don't have any favorites. My wife made me a CD a while back which included:

Re: Music from the 50s and 60s
When you throw the 50s and the 60s together, Anna, you're talking about three different periods. I remember the early 50s--the last of the big bands, Perry Como, Frank Sinatra, and all of that. Then rock and roll started and went to about '63. The Beach Boys were sort of the last link between do-wop and what was to come.
Anyway--I don't have great musical memories of the fifties. I mainly listened to classical music, and occasionally I liked an instrumental. like "The Happy Organ." The fifties were something I slogged through, and the world before 1964 was black-and-white. Then adolescence hit right at the same time as the new rock showed up. The world became "a carousel of color," as Walt Disney and NBC slogan wanted you to believe. But hey, it was.
Here is the Left Banke's minor hit from 1967. It's called "Pretty Ballerina." Very haunting song.

Donna, here's the Ohio youngsters that got to the charts before Herman's Hermits did "There's a Kind of Hush." These boys went on the Tonight Show--they weren't just regional wonders.
