Okay, going way off board topic here, ##oo## but it is on my mind right now and has been passing through it (my mind) for a while now.... ~~oo~~

Are any of you fimilar with the band Green Day? They got hot about 10 yrs ago..... kind of punkish (for lack of a better word), kinda of rock.... anyway if you are fimilar with them.... ||oo||

Do you think they are such a major disappointment? <<=>> I mean for real, the Dookie album was amazing.... @@9@@ one of my very favorite albums.... almost every song on there was great... then for the next three albums (Nimrod, Insomniac and Warning) had one or two great songs, a few decent songs and a bunch of forgotten crap..... now they seem to be all forgettable crap....

I am so disappointed..... Just thought I would throw this out there and see if there is any other former Green Day fans around....

Now, back to your regular programming ((G))

Hi Shannon,

I feel that after the lead singer had his child, I think his priorities changed and you could tell it in his music.

!!!yes!!!

And he openly admits it. I have to say I am fairly openminded about allowing a band to grow, and not always sound the same. There is some of the newer stuff that I do like. But I don't hold the "selling out" factor against them.

Another great example of this is Third Eye Blind, Every record has been nothing like the others. But they are all good.
Love always,
Elizabeth

I agree but holding them to the first album is not really a fair comparison because it was so great that it would be almost impossible for anything they do to measure up. I still love their music, just not enough to buy their cd any longer.

Hugs,
Stef

Hi Stef,

I agree about the first album thing.

i thought of this too ... lol!

As artists, if they read that, they'd go, 'cool!'

As business men and parents who have to provide, I bet they are going, "Nooo!!!"

Green Day does ring a bell, but unfortunately I only have their old stuff. And after reading what you said about their new album, I doubt I will buy it, I'm much more into classical anyway.

Punk was nothing but a passing phase in my life. :P

Thank You for the warning! I would rather remember them in their good times! IMHO Green Day was the epitome of classic punk for the 90's, a lot like Black Flag used to be in the early 80's. And as to them, Henry Rollins is nothing like he was back then either. Ditto the Butthole Surfers, no good in the later days! Depeche Mode's last good one was 'Violater'...Time changes everything so without change there is no life...I guess it's how it mudst be.
Some of my fave punk bands: Black Flag; Ramones; Naked Raygun(my fave drummer Eric Spicer); Iggy Pop; Ministry; B52's; The Cure; Missing Persons; Depeche Mode; The Dead Kennedys; The Dead Milkmen; Dag Nasty; The Cramps; The Jam; The Descendents(later called 'The All'; both had ex-Black Flag member Bill Stevenson, my other fave drummer); Sigue Sigue Sputnik(techno-punk-glam from England, never made it big in the US); and I could go on forever I guess...

Yet I like and listen to all kinds of music and always have; Sons of the Pioneers to Chopin and Mozart to Megadeth. As long as it's quality music I like it! It's hard to imagine this old birdie had a punk background, but it's true! I've calmed down a lot in my middle age but every now and then just for fun I give the rednecks in the trailer park a full-volume taste of who I once was! They never know what to expect of me and I kind of like it that way!

stef, 8)

penny t, how about Rancid?

btw, in the last few years, I can only think of only one well known alt-rock artist that came out with a recent CD that equaled or surpassed their previous highly regarded work. That would be Jane's Addiction's "Strays". If you liked "Ritual de lo Habitual" and "Nothing's Shocking" you'll be pleasantly surprised. Its also GREAT for wrecking havoc with your neighbors too!
