Summer Heat and CDing

Hello girls,

How do these warmer temperatures affect your dressing rituals? Does the blazing heat and humidity influence how often you dress?

Here in NY we had an abnormally HOT month of May, forcing many people to break out their summer clothes and put in the air conditioners a month early. Although we did get a cool break for the first few days in June, alas the sweltering heat and humidity bears down upon us once again.

Normally I try to dress on the weekends, even when I stay in. But with the rising mercury I get to a point where I don’t even want to think about putting on makeup, bra or wig. I sweat like crazy, and the heat just makes it all too uncomfortable. The ability to seek refuge under the air conditioner is limited at best, especially with most summer activities taking place OUTDOORS. One must not only contend with the temperature, but also various insects as well. For me these things are much easier to bear without a hot, thick wig sitting on my head, or a sweaty bra and forms literally stuck to my chest.

With the exception of the Invasion of the Pines festival on July 4, I really don’t anticipate dressing at all for the duration of what is sure to be another long, hot, sticky summer. :?

How do you deal with the summer heat? Do you brave the heat anyway? Or do you put it all aside till the fall? Let’s discuss the topic of summer heat & how it affects the desire to dress. 8)

Hi Lorna,

Good topic! Since I don't go out doing the makeup and wig thing, that really isn't a concern for me. I just wear women's jeans and t-shirts out and about. But I do wear bras most of the the time. When it's hot and humid, I opt for an absorbent cotton sports bra or non-wire cotton soft cup, A/B cup size without the forms. And, of course, cool cotton panties.

I have also been known to wear a two-piece swimsuit instead of bra and panty. Never know when I might catch an opportunity to get in a bit of sunbathing in the back yard.

I've only recently started doing the full body shaving thing so the jury is still out on how that will be.

Fortunately, up here we are only blessed with 90 degree temps 4 - 5 days out of the year. But 80 and humid is not uncommon.

Hi you all.

I know this sounds crazy but when it is hot an I am sweating I enjoy wearing nothing but Nylon panties and a nylon slip, about the house. I do not mind sweating in those at all. In fact I quite enjoy it.

Hi all,

Lorna,

Same here; the humidity is almost insufferable here in the summer. Contrary to NYC--which sits on the Eastern seaboard--Montreal is in the bottom of the St-Lawrence seaway valley. The hot air moves in and then just sits there for a few weeks. But, what the heck! It's the weather; not much we can do about it... except maybe dress a little less often.

I still dress in the summertime, but usually forego the wig and makeup--unless, of course, I go out (which hasn't happened yet this summer). I try to dress only at night, when it's a little cooler. Also, I sleep naked (as opposed to wearing a nightgown, or what have you, as I do in the winter).

I have to admit there are some days when I enjoy the slickness of my damp lingerie and hose clinging to my body, turning the fabric truly into a second (sweat-soaked) skin. However, I can't do this for too long as I get all itchy after a while. Cool showers are a blessing after an evening like that.

I rarely underdress in the summer (aside from panties, that is). Here's a tip: try to avoid shaving your body in the summertime--doing so would be a rash decision, indeed! :P

Love,
CJ

P.S. to Darlene,
Well I'll be...! Seems we both enjoy clinging nylon, girl. Cool! 8)

Well I posted this earlier but anyway. What I have found is to take good care of yor face, wash, moisturize work on keeping it nice then you don't have to wear as much, if any makeup, other than a nice lipstick and some light eye makeup, so you don't "melt" our face. I also try and take extra care of my legs. Don't damage them with bruises, cuts, mesquito bites, poison ivy, etc. Watch cutting the grass you can get all kinds of ugly on your legs. Nice legs with a tan means no hose and if you use a good tanning lotion you should be able to wear those mini's and short shorts.
If you do any work around the house with your hands wear gloves, I have also found that if I wear stick on nails when I work I am more aware of where my hands are and fingers stay out from under hammers.
Hope every one IS a beautiful summer for someone!
Love,
Deborah

Great topic Lorna!

In the summer I usually limit my going out til after dark when it is somewhat cooler and I make sure I have plenty of pressed powder with me to keep from getting so shiny.

Hugs,
Stef

Never really been much of a concern for me... but then again that could just be due to the whole "cold-hearted" thing.

The moisturizing tips are essential. You have to take care of your skin.

Hugs,
Wendy

I agree that this is a great topic. I, too, tend to limit my going out until after dark, when it tends to be somewhat cooler. My reasons, however, include another factor as well. I like to hike for relaxation and enjoyment, and if the trail is not so rugged and “primative” that one needs long pants for protection, it makes sense to wear shorts. Since many hikers are not CD’s and would not understand why a guy would shave his legs, I tend to let mine return to a trimmed but not shaved condition. Consequently, if I go out en femme, I typically wear slacks to hide the less-than-smooth legs. But somehow, wearing slacks when it is 95º and humid just is not very appealing. To be sure, the “shininess” problem also is a factor:   around here, the saying goes, men sweat and women glisten, but I would prefer not to glisten too much!!!

Hi Lorna,

I agree with everyone here. :)

Great topic.

The hair is the toughest part. I enjoy dressing still, but I can't say I dress as much. I'm probably a little more like Darlene.

I know, I know about why we need insects, but sheeesh.. lol I sure would enjoy the summer more without those pesky little bugs! ack!!!

I think I said all this before on another thread about shaving. Yes, I have to let my legs go hairy in the summertime. We get some 100+ degree days, and with dewpoints over 70 degrees. Walk outside, and your glasses steam over, even if you take them off. I think the hair is actually a little cooler - I guess the extra surface area helps?

I go outside only once or twice in the summer, usually after midnight.

Sleeveless short dresses, sandals, no wig, and stay away from the mirror.

Hugs,

Bernice
