Food for Thought

I wonder if anyone else beside me has given this much thought. North Korea hasn't been in any conflicts or a war in over 63 years but whenever you see their leader with all his generals and officers behind him they all have a chest full of medals on their uniforms. How, where and when did they earn all those medals ? I know in the US military you have to have been in conflict or done something of valor to earn a medal so what did these officers do in the past 63 years to earn all those medals. Just wondering.

They managed to stay alive and in power. Probably a lot of attaboy medals!

Maybe we could just collect all their officers with a giant flyover magnet

Technically the Korean war has never come to an end. There is a cease fire, but no formal declaration of peace has ever been signed. In their minds they are still at war.

Maybe the same way Un became president, they inherited them?

Earn medals for staying out of a war (or wars)? Now that's a novel idea. I really hope that catches on world-wide. We've had "wars to end all wars" for as long as I can remember and probably long before that. But it never seems to end, even though the majority of people I talk to don't want any more wars. So who keeps this thing (meaning the desire for war) going anyway? As I often said during the Vietnam war: We should bring all the soldiers from both sides home and put boxing gloves on both LBJ and Ho Chi Minh and put both of them in the ring and let them duke it out and leave the rest of us alone.

just some thoughts from a Vietnam era guy who fortunately never had to go over there,

Everything else about NK is created (look at the most recent propaganda video), so whats to stop them from just creating reasons to give medals to their military officers? "Here's you're 'putting your shoes on the correct feet" medal....etc. It's all a facade and unfortunately, the people of NK have limited ways (and perhaps desires) of seeing beyond what they are told.

Just a little truth in advertising- the US military does award medals for things like good behavior, when you were active and outstanding service. Most medals are awarded due to service in a combat or a war zone and many for actions during combat.
Doesn't really answer the original question does it? Maybe North Korea hands out a lot of "atta boys"?
