Christmas is fast approaching. It is a time of family, celebration, and cheer but at least for me it is a time for traditions as well.

Back the first year I reunited with my family we took a family picture and have ever since. I look back at the original one and there was both my parents, 3 of my grandparents, my brother and his wife and their children, my sister, and myself and my first husband although we were just engaged at that moment. Then I look over the further pictures and some are gone at different times but I also see my sister's husband appear, then their children, my nephews and nieces grow to adults then their spouses come in and now their children in some cases. It takes some effort to get everyone together for it but IMO it is worth it.

That is my favorite Christmas tradition, what is yours?

Years back, Christmas Eve was the big hoopla, done at my in-laws. Brother-in-law took and processed the family photo. Christmas morning I'd make pork roll, egg, & cheese on a hardroll for wife, son & daughter. When my in-laws were older, the Christmas eve gig went to my brother-in-law's. When the in-laws and brother-in-law passed, Christmas Eve moved to my house, and I take & process the family picture. Daughter got married and moved north, but is here every Christmas Eve, and insists on the pork roll, egg, & cheese on a hardroll that morning. Yes, sometimes the traditions change, but not too much....

Way back in the dark ages when I was in college I would go out for a drink with my two best friends the Friday before Christmas. I still remember back then how we would worry the bartender would look too closely at the fake IDs we had. It has been going on over 15 years now and I look forward to it even today. Granted things have changed from the bar we go to as well as we are now responsible adults, well most of the time. We still get together for a drink on that Friday and already have plans as to where and what time this year.

Christmas is time for family and friends for me. Christmas eve church and coming home to open one present. Some of the timing of when family gets together has changed due to extended family and multiple schedules, but we always get together to exchange presents and eat good food.

Never had any Christmas Traditions, I was raised as a Jehovah's Witness, and they don't do Christmas. Recently I have been posting these two podcast episodes from my favorite person on the internet, the inimitable Mike Duncan, on every forum I'm on, and that's been sort of a tradition, I suppose.
