Hi girls ,

I , like many here are fed up with the lack of justice in our courts .

Case 1 : a teacher has a sexual consentual relationship with a 14 year old student 20 years ago.
Penalty : 3 years jail

Case 2 : a man digitaly and orally rapes a woman in her own appartment when he was drunk.
Penalty : suspended sentence , judge wishes him " all the best " as he leaves the courtroom.

Case 3 : a man rapes a 7 year old girl three times .
Penalty : none he walks free.

I'm not condoning what the teacher did in case 1 but compare it to the other 2 cases , which is worse ?

Australia is known as " the lucky country " , I guess they must mean " if your a sex offender " .

There is certainly something wrong with the court system's priorities. We see it here in the US also. If you can get a slick lawyer and have the money to do whatever, your gonna walk and you can trash the reputation and life of your accuser. Just have fame and money, and you can get away with murder.

on the other hand some 45 Texan inmates have been cleared of their crimes through DNA testing of old evidence, most having served 5 years or more. If we're gonna goof up, lets goof up on the side of not sending innocent people to jail.

You're right none of those are right. I just think justice shouldn't care about your born sex. The men in those cases should have been sentenced. :mad face:

Sigh....Alas, I must agree with you, CJ. Ah, but I think it is a lot of the people charged with seeing that justice is done that are blind as well as dumb

Ther seems to be a culture in our law that any woman that cries "rape " is a liar unless proven otherwise , unfortunatly only a small number of rapes are reported to police .

The poor woman in case 2 went through all the humiliation of a courtroom just to see the perpetrator walk , the judge wishing him all the best must have really rubbed salt in .

The above case the rapist walked , it was the 7 year old girl case that had the suspended sentence , I got them mixed up but it doesn't matter , they are still examples of what a joke our justice system is .

miranda, I think you meant that a person is innocent until proven guilty. Using the either/or argument (all victims are "liars" or "truthtellers") is a sure fire path to corrupted justice. Just because a perp gets off or gets a lighter sentence doesn't mean the victim is a liar. (unless of course she/he DID lie). There are other factors a jury considers, and don't forget, a jury is US.

Us girls must pay particular attention to ensuring that the accused are treated without prejudice . . . there are MANY in our society that are readily willing to label us DEVIANTS and send us away for being guilty of nothing but ourselves.



(of course, if a person IS found guilty of a crime, rape or whatever, then he/she is subject to the FULL punishment ruled by the court.)

Three years ago, a fairly well-known boxer (a Montrealer) was sentenced, here, to seven years in prison for rape and sexual molestation of two young girls who, at the time the abuse began, were aged 12 and 14. I won't go into details but what he did to them is absolutely horrifying and utterly despicable. The 40-year old man is now scheduled to appear soon at an early parole hearing. He wants out. He claims innocence. Hard to believe him--he's got a criminal record of Dickensian proportions... assault and battery, concealed weapon, disorderly conduct... a man sorely in need of anger management training.

I remember that trial; it took place right here, at the downtown courthouse. While throngs of fans hounded him outside the courtroom and in the hallways, seeking his autograph and wanting their picture taken with him, the two victims had to do their best to avoid the publicity while they watched their tormentor being adulated (there was, and still is, a publication ban). I felt almost physically sick for these two women, for what they had to go through. They were 19 and 21 years old when the man was arrested--he'd sequestered them in a Florida motel room.

Well, today the two women announced they were going public with the details of their ordeal; they'll be publishing an account of the hell they went through for all those years, sometime in October. They know him well because, as it turns out, he's their father.

I find these two daughters have a tremendous amount of courage and I salute them. If only, maybe just this once, justice could see with a clear eye, he'll be forced to serve out his full sentence. He trains regularly in jail, so that he may soon climb back up in the ring. If promoters and boxing associations have any sense at all, they'll make sure the only ring he ever gets to see again is the grimy, stinky one around his shirt collar.

The man is a menace.

I should point out that in the 3 cases I described there is no doubt , and all 3 pleaded guilty to their crime .
I agree with Alexandras point , we dont want innocent people in jail

My gripe is courts letting people who are a danger to society walk , while someone who is guilty of " fraud for example" rot in jail .
someone found guilty of fraud should be made to work to pay back what they've stolen .

Unfortunatly we had a rape case where the judge said ( quote ) " if a woman says no! , she really means yes! .
