ahem . . . not to rain on anyone parade, but I don't exactly see this as good news . . . I checked the website (quickly) and didn't see anything about whether or not the print edition is continuing . . .

I hope I'm wrong but I believe we are witnessing the end of GirlTalk. Most likely the magazine was unable to generate enough income (advertising) to cover the printing/mailing costs. To salvage the magazine, it was dumped on the net at a much lower cost. Not a good sign. Then there will be the backlash from paid subscribers to deal with. Hardly anybody makes money on the net, let alone publishing a magazine on the net without a non-net afflixation. My prediction: less than 1 year. sorry. :(

My prediction. I think the advertisers will make more money as a result of more people knowing it exists. I suspect a lot of us did not know that it existed, and consequently did not know that these companies existed. If it dose not succeed in a years time more people would be willing to purchase it being as more people would know it exists. I think it is a good move.

I just flicked through it and it seems really good. I'll have to print it out cos I hate reading too much on the PC.

Thanks once again for the link!

Hi ll,

Just downloaded the issue last night. Great stuff. Thanks, Beauty! :)

I'd seen and picked up the magazine a few times before (it's easily available here), but my stacks of mags of all kinds are getting so high and wide that I'll be able to use them as furniture, soon!

Love,
CJ

LOL

Sounds like me CJ, I have 100s of videogame and Formula One mags all under the stairs. I'd throw them out but I can't lift em lol

Sophie,

I just wish I had an "under the stairs" to put them all!

I'd drop them all off at some doctor's or dentist's office, but I have the weirdest tastes in periodicals... I'm not sure what they'd make of them! :P

By the way, gorgeous avatar, girl! Very dark and exotic! 8)

Love,
CJ

Yes, someone mentioned at our SBS Social last night that the magazine was gong to be free on line, but there were some doubters, I had no clue. I have read some of the info before and hope they are successful in this venture.

I downloaded it and took a quick glance through it - there is lots of advertising, but a lot of interesting looking articles, too.

Thank you, Beauty

When I first heard that Girl Talk was available online for free, my response was mixed, at best. For the longest time I did not know how to address this. :?

While it is good that Girl Talk is now available online and free, you can't take the online version with you when you step away from the computer. Basically you would need a top-notch printer and LOT of paper, with the patience to sit and wait for all these pages to print. Many people cannot stare at large text documents on a computer screen for too long.

You're quite right Lorna. I'm not going to read 92 pages of anything on the net. I wonder how much ink 92 pages of color will use.

If going to a free online-only publication is the smart PR move, OTHER magazines (non-TG) will be rushing to do this as well but we don't see this happening. I hope the best for them, but things don't look good IMO.
