Gender Confusion and Music (female-sounding singers)

I'm not talking about in the musicians, but in the listener's mind. There's an up and coming band called Coheed and Cambria. When I first heard of them, my ears perked up at the name. I once belonged to a medievalist group that acted as the "Kingdom of Cambria" (after ancient Wales). Anyway, nothing else about them caught my attention. They appeared to be just another group of four hairy guys. Big whoop!
Then, one morning, I'm shopping after work at Target, and one of their videos comes up in the electronics department. The song's called "A Favor House Atlantic". I didn't pay any attention to the video, but the vocalist caught my attention. I pictured "her" as this cute little Avril Lavigne-type. I rushed home and pulled up the band's website, and discovered that there are no female members. Nor were there any guest performers on the album. I went back and looked at the video, and, sure enough, there's a guy singing.
I guess I shouldn't be terribly surprised. There have been lots of male singers who have gotten attention with female-sounding voices. I just wasn't expecting it.
If you're not familiar with the song or the band, you can find them here:

If you look under the "media" section, I believe they have the video.
