Christopher Reeve died of heart failure at the age of 52.

Most of us recall him as Superman on the big screen, but let's also remember him as a real-life hero he was. Although he was paralyzed, his spirit remained strong.

A moment of silence for the true Man of Steel.

I loved him in the movie: "Somewhere in Time" (my all time favorite movie)

I heard over the news on my way to work. I seemed to be the only one there who cared. He did have a super spirit, didn't he. He will be missed, as he was a great spokesperson for adovacating stem cell research too, and remained a very personable interview . Up, Up and Away, Chris!

To was a long hard fight but he always kept fighting and seams from the news reports he was fighting all the way to the end.

Live on in our memories Christopher Reeve and may your fight for spinal cord reasherch and repair never be forgtotten.

Let's hope this tragedy speeds up the stem cell research that is hoped could lead to cures from the condition Christopher Reeve was suffering these past 9 years.

I'm glad someone else brought up the stem cell research . . . I got flamed in another forum for doing this . . . remember this on election day . . . people with spinal cord injuries will thank you for it.

I've been fighting tears over this one for the last 24 hours. "Superman" is one of my all-time favorite movies (I remember watching it over and over on HBO when we first got cable TV), and he (Reeve) was one of my heroes, first for the movies, and later for his real-life endeavors. I was looking forward to the day when I could watch him stand up again. He believed it would happen, so who was I to doubt?

A friend of mine on another forum posted this item. Over the weekend, Dr. Maxime Faget died. He was one of the engineers who worked on the Mercury space program, and every one that followed.

The two men stand outside the tunnel . The one in the wheelchair looks at the old man and says, "Race you!"

The old man looks incredulous. "But I'm..."

"An old man, and I'm in a wheelchair. But if you beat me, you can tell St. Peter you kicked Superman's backside."

And they were off.

Indeed, he will be missed. I remember him speaking at the 1996 Paraolympic Games in Atlanta. Ironic, this coming weekend at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island, Michigan (where the movie "Somewhere in Time" was filmed) will be the annual "Somewhere in Time Weekend". Jane Seymour was there last year and it was always hoped that Chris would someday be able to come.

Chris did it right!!!! Isn't it what we are here to do? To help our fellow travelers on this 'veil of tears." He definitely brought a very serious problem to light and did it without self-pity!!
