Freedom, My View

Hi All,

Proceed with caution, I am putting my political soul out for all to see!
Please remember, I firmly believe in the freedom of all to have their own perspective and beliefs.

Freedom is why we are great. Belief and support of freedom is our future. Leaning towards totalitarianism is wrong and will protect us from nothing.

Many have no respect for history. Nothing happens now that hasn't happened in another place and another time. Kennedy got into trouble over the Bay of Pigs. The CIA said that if we initiated an uprising in Cuba the people would rise up against Castro. We all know this did not happen. Castro then in talks with Moscow got aid and nuclear missiles. Moscow wanted missiles in Cuba because our government at the time already had nuclear missiles aimed at the Soviet Union located in Turkey. We in this country did not know this vital piece of information. The Soviets responded to our threat to them. Cuba has never fallen. It is interesting now that Putin(sp) who just took over Russia, in a bloodless coup, with barely a mention by Bush, now supports Bush for President. That should help all of us to sleep better at night.

State department recommended against the Bay of Pigs assault. State Department also had great concern with the Bush plan in Iraq. State did not believe Iraqis would rise up and basically I don't think they have. Twice we have had that one terrorist leader surrounded and the Provisional Iraqi government negotiated his release. Both times there were Americans lost. We are staging yet another assault on Faluja (sp) to get that terrorist. What is that all about? Many State Department employees have resigned over blatant mismanagement of the war in Iraq.

We as cross-dressers in this country are not free to exist in society to participate freely in the work place, business or politics. People, read history about Germany pre WWI and WWII. Safety and security of this country is inextricably tied to the freedom of scientists, doctors, geneticists, theologians of all religions, military people, straights, gays, cross-dressers, transgender people, working people, poor people, environmentalists, and rich business people. Bush, when able, has through policy and action, muzzled any opposition or disagreement with his single-minded beliefs and policies.

We don't know where the great discoveries will appear next. Radical Christians and the beliefs of superiority and discrimination will result in similar beliefs to the fundamental Islamic terrorists. That general idea is that only special people, who subscribe to their particular beliefs and dogma, are accepted into their society.

How should the Iraqis view us? We have killed 20,000 civilians by military estimates. Many people in this country are not shy to express the belief that we should kill the whole of Iraq because terrorists, who by the way were not aligned with Sadam, killed 3 or 4 thousand in New York.

Many of the reasons we had rioting in American cities by blacks are similar to those that are willing to die strapping bombs to their bodies. Blacks by exclusion from our society, no jobs, no futures, no hope, and no method to live the American dream with their family’s intact, hopelessness triumphed. Death becomes a freedom. What most of us define as sanity disappears for those people.

Sanctions against Germany after WWI left the peoples in a dire condition. People in Germany supported Hitler in the beginning because of his promises to get back at those who put the sanctions on the German Society. Hitler used the hate in people to get nationalistic feelings of togetherness by the idea that they are better than the queers, Jews, gypsies and French. By common hate, individuals and countries can band together for common goals as we all did after 9/11.

Now, I believe we need in this country a coherent belief that all of us in this country were born with certain unalienable rights. Bush did not even propose a law to make legal unions between gays legal, irrespective of marriage. They should have those legal rights as a family group afforded to straights. This goes to the core of Bush beliefs about religion, our constitution, and, yes, us cross-dressers. This is why he and the evangelicals need the amendment to the constitution. It would, for the first time in our history deprive a group of basic constitutional rights. By their actions they say gays are less than straight married people. Many of these people would, if in authority and with a couple laws that could possibly pass by majority vote, would also deprive cross-dressers of their children. Think about it.

There is still a stigma attached to singles in my region. There is talk they could be gay. This is perceived as highly undesirable. People are being drawn together in a common cause to stop gays from having Constitutional guarantees of equality under the law. No case has been made yet, that tells me the harm strong gay families cause this country or the usual married couples. For me discriminating against gays is the majority opinion. It is rooted in religion and hate. Supporting gay families would reduce harmful behaviors in the gay community. Acceptance is another universal need.

Many of us suffered at the hands of those who believed cross-dressing is a perversion. The hate we endured and the methods we used to survive were sometimes not in our own best interest. As children we could not know the differences between truth, hate and bigotry. Gays and others have suffered as children. Look to many of the beginning stories. It hurt our being, our self-esteem, our emotional stability and our ability to pursue happiness with no harm to others. What if it was ok with our parents to raise us with love and respect and allow us to pursue our own path? Perpetuating lies and misinformation will condemn another generation of children to grow in an atmosphere of hate and exclusion. This is the path George Bush is pursuing for our country.

What if public policy supported the constitution? Attitudes can and do shift. We as the people do set the tone and direction of the country. My wife’s biggest problem with my cross-dressing has to do with what stigma or harm would befall us if I were to be recognized by the wrong individual. Saying the hell with what others say or do to condemn us is fine. Ask the blacks who got lynched during the civil rights battles.
Ask the black children who only wanted an education.

I finally did not pussy foot. These are my personal beliefs from my own personal frame of reference and my experiences. I will post no more about political issues until after the election.

Please everyone get out and vote!

Kersten,
Loved your post! I do however see a little bit different perspective. The old joke," What do you call a bus load of lawyers going over a cliff??
A good start!" On the other hand my best friend is a very successful attorney but she is very selective in what cases she pursues. Our society is really screwed up. We are willing to pay = what $30 - $50 dollars to watch some pollyanna who makes $2 -$3 million a year to play a "child's game yet we won't allow the teachers of some of these jackasses to make a decent living! I had a roof put on my house and one of the "roofers" was a one armed black man. The foreman said he wished he had three of him as he was the hardest worker he had ever had. I and my friend, attorney looked into his situation and because he was injured ( arm was cut off just below the shoulder from a hugh piece of concrete pipe) the state law deemed that the arm is only worth about $20,000 and after attorney's fees he would net $12,000. and the court has tied most of that up for about 10 years. Yet some moron spills a cup of coffee which she is holding between her legs, hits speed bump and collects what $10 million - Where is the justice in America. What really scares me is the current "rumor" that Kerry has a phalanx of attornies who will be sitting in corporate jets on election night ready to fly anywhere in the US that the vote is close and Kerry will not do like AL Gore and "admit defeat" He intends to claim victory even before any conflict is resolved. What if Bush does the same thing and calls the National Guard to "restore order?" Does the term anarchary mean anything to you folks - I hope I am over the edge, but..............
As a crossdresser I do have freedom in the US if I am willing to accept the scourge of society. The only reason I can be hauled off to jail is for using the "wrong" bathroom. Don't even get me started on the press, all they want to do is make a name for themselves by "bringing down" some powerful individual.
Cynical ?! Me?! Evidently, but I still love you girls and yes! get your pert little butts out and VOTE!

I agreed with a lot that was said here. Not all....

One thing stood out for me. A trivial thing but it made me think how we forget or are misinformed. I was in 2nd grade during the Cuban missle crisis. And I knew about the missles in Turkey.

In 5th grade I read a kids book about chemistry by Issac Assimov. It was an old book then, writen in the 50's. He talked about ozone depletion and CFCs.

People, information on so many of these subjects is out there. Even George Bush Sr. thought invading Iraq was a bad idea. But we forget or don't pay attention. And the price we pay is that the electorate is too uninformed to vote intelligently.

BTW that infamous McDonalds hot coffee lawsuit.... What doesn't get much press is that the woman suffered extensive 3rd degree burns through her clothing and was hopsitalized for weeks. One big gulp of that coffee probably could have killed her. I say she is welcome to every penny she got.

since it was brought up, McDonald was going to lose the lawsuit. they were dealing with public opinion and should have settled out of court. One of the issues allways brought up is "coffee is usually served at 135-140". Well it isn't in any machine that any health agency will let a commercial restaraunt use. Having owned 3 restaraunts in 2 states (NH and WA), both states required internal hot water holding and instant water heaters for coffee and cocoa to be at funtioning at 190-200 degrees (the water thats used to brew) and a hot liquid holding temp (hot pots and caraffs) of over 160 with over 165 preferred. When people are used to 120 degree home hot water restrictions and 135-140 home coffee makers (a very dangerous area as far as comsumables containing bacteria) its easy to get them to hop on the band wagon. Yes, commercial coffee is scalding, most health inspectors require it to be for public saftey.

The actual medical bills submitted (first $800, then $10,000) do not fall in line with surgery over weeks in a modern burn unit for 6% coverage third degree burns. Closer to an emergency room visit and a follow up or 2.
