How Old Are You?

How old are you?
When someone asks me that question, four answers come to mind,
because I have four different ages.
1. The chronological age:
This is what most mean by, "How old are you?" They mean how
many years has it been since you came out of your mother's womb?
That's a simple measure of years and it is the easiest one to
figure.
2. The physical age:
You can be 40 chronologically and 20 physically or vice versa.
How old you are in years can be totally different from your age
as reflected by your physical body. Some at 60 have more
energy, vitality, and health than many at 20.
I rode my bicycle for 40 miles recently on the bike trail. As I
was nearing my starting point and the end of my 40-mile ride, a
man passed me like I was standing still. No one during the 40
miles had passed me but this man zoomed by.
When I got to the parking lot he was standing there talking to
friends. I overheard him say how far he had ridden.
"Excuse me," I said, "I couldn't help but overhear you, did you
just say that you rode 65 miles?" "Yep," he answered. "Do you
mind if I ask how old you are?" I asked. "I'm 60," he replied.
What he meant was that he was 60 chronologically but his body
was far younger. Few 20-year-olds were in his condition.
Some cars have 200,000 miles on them and are 20 years old, yet
they run and look almost like new. So it is with our bodies.
As we age, how well we have maintained them shows our true
physical age.
3. The intellectual:
Our IQ, exposure and experience determines our intellectual age.
4. The emotional/spiritual:
Some are babies in grown up bodies with big degrees and plenty
of money, but emotionally and spiritually immature. Some are
teenagers but yet have the wisdom of sages.
Hi all,
I received the above in my inbox. I am usually amazed and encouraged when I see those who are young demonstrating a level of maturity that I have observed, in far to many (in my opinion) go to their grave without ever having received. And saddened for those who I see on that path.
How does one obtain that higher level if they were not blessed by having received it as a result their parents?
Please respond here only if you can contribute? I do not want to see this thread in Mordor.
Love Darlene.

Hi Sis,
I go by the Mark Twain measurement: "You are as old as you feel!"
Virginia helps keep me young!!! She want to look as pretty as she can so it causes me to work out harder, take care of my self, drink lots of water, wash and clean my face (fight those wrinkles) ! To me age is just some abritary date on my driver's license.
Love,
Virgina

My body is obviously older than my age, that must be why I feel like s#!t all the time. Over a decade of smoking, drug abuse, poor eating habits, little exercise, and rivethead dancing with the headbanging & the jumping into the air & slamming my feet down on the ground like a piledriver are taking their toll. I'll be surprised if I reach 50+ with my health reasonably intact. I'll probably die of a heart attack like my grandfather did, if I don't suicide first. Jah love, I feel old.
As to intellect/emotion, harder to judge. I'm cynical enough to be 50, but sometimes I feel stuck in adolescence. Maybe I'm finally starting to grow up, and that's why I feel so depressed at the loss (waste?) of my youth.
Wow, this is depressing.

Hmmm......I think one way this is possible is by learning from others' as well as one's own mistakes. One can also learn it from teachers, friends, peers, other family members, and other role models.
As for myself....I am never growing up

Violet, honey you have memories! You evidently had and are having a great time!! Can't say I have your type of memories, of course I am your senior by a few years

. They say as we get older memories are all we have - well this girl is still making memeories, in fact I intend to have so many that I will not be able to recall them. Even though they may be good one's like being called a "slut" or having a policeman call me "honey" I take Virginia's hand or she takes mine - whichever and off we go skipping happily down the path on our "Magical Mystery Tour" and as Jimmy Buffet says in his new song "Enjoying Ourselves on this trip Around the Sun!"
I say just grab life and shake the hell out of it!!!!

Hi Darlene.
I think myself younger!!
I party younger!!
Dress younger (dress being the opprotive word)!!
When look in the mirror, I see younger!!
My grandkids keep me younger!!
Only when I go to the Doctor, I'm I reminded of my age, which is why I haven't been too see him for years.
For me age, is a state of mind

Hi Darlene, great thread!
Chronologically, I will be 33 as of this May.
Intellectually, I would like to think that my intelligence at least matches my age, if not exceeds my age, even though I don't always act upon it when I should.

But I do still consider myself to be somewhat intelligent. I guess that belief is a product of having learned how to read at age 4.
In terms of book smarts, I have to say that I consider myself at my age. But in terms of street smarts, I'm at least 50.
(Hey, I'm a New Yorker! We have seen & been through it all.)
Physically, emotionally, and spiritually I would have to say that I am definitely still 19 or 20!
From a physical standpoint I am still asked to show my ID when purchasing a lottery ticket or a glass of wine or a beer with dinner. And even though I don't practice the healthiest lifestyle in terms of food, drink and smoking, I have always been in very good physical shape, at least from a relative standpoint. I spent weeks digging, cutting and lifting heavy slabs of rock doing heavy duty landscaping at my mother's house last fall, and didn't even so much as pull a muscle.
Emotionally, wow, perhaps we should not go there just yet...

For the better part of last year I had most of the gals here wondering if I was dealing with a full deck. But I can poke fun at myself now as I am happy that those rough days of 2004 are now in the past.
Spiritually, I am still a dreamer. I guess I always have been and always will be. Hey, I sometimes dream on levels that would put Walter Mitty to shame!

All I have to do is just LOOK at a pile of rocks and pull a muscle!
I'm at the age where trading in a shovel for a backhoe is a health neccessity, no matter how young I am at heart.

Hi all,
This just arrived in my inbox, and I think it fits here. I have never heard it put this way before, and is not what I would have posted from my way of thinking. But I have to admit that I would find it hard to argue that it does not make sense.

The Hole
========
Two brothers once decided to dig a deep hole behind their house.
As they were working, a couple of other boys stopped by to
watch.
"What are you doing?" asked one of the visitors.
"We're going to dig a hole all the way through the earth!" one
of the brothers volunteered excitedly.
The other boys began to laugh, telling the brothers that digging
a hole all the way through the earth was impossible. After a
long silence, one of the diggers picked up a jar full of spiders,
worms, insects and interesting stones. He removed the
lid and showed the wonderful contents to the scoffing visitors.
Then he said confidently, "Even if we don't dig all the way
through the earth, look what we found along the way!"
Their goal was far too ambitious, but it did cause them to dig.
That is what a goal is for, to cause us to move in the
direction we have chosen. In other words, to set us to digging!
But not every goal will be fully achieved. Not every job will
end successfully. Not every relationship will endure. Not every
hope will come to pass. Not every love will last. Not every
endeavor will be completed. Not every dream will be realized.
But when you fall short of your aim, perhaps you can say,
"Yes, but look at what I found along the way!
Look at the wonderful things which have come into my life
because I tried to do something!"
It is in the digging that life is lived, and it is the joy in
the journey that truly matters!

The same two brothers once decided to beat all the other astronautic endeavors. They said:
"We are going to the SUN."
When asked, how will you cope with the heat? They said:
"That's ok - we'll go at night."
with apologies,
Willy

Hey Darlene,
If I did a correct self analysis of myself, then I'm 39/29/32/42...It kinda fits. I always have felt pretty well rounded (all jokes aside) and even though I joke about my age constantly, truth be told, I don't really care how old I am. Age only matters when you're trying to get in bars and collect social security.
Hugs,
Kyra

Hi all,
How old am I? Chronologically, I am 62. But I rode my bicycle 120 kilometers this morning before breakfast, so my body must be far younger. Few 20-year-olds are such lean, mean, pedaling machines! Can’t you tell just by looking at me? Intellectually, well ... hum, my doctor said my IQ is out of sight, but I’m not sure which direction she meant. And emotionally or spiritually, I have the wisdom of a guru. Or maybe I’m thinking of gorilla.
