Why are so many unhappy with the forum?
It has long been a problem of mine to make this forum a happy place for all...... but it has always been my desire.
If you could please tell me what needs to change (as opposed to just leaving) I would very much appreciate it.
Please help me with this... it is very important to me.
Please, I hope the responses here are useful and connected with the point of this topic. Thank you for your help and understanding.

Shannon,
I consider this website my Internet home.
I started lurking here near the very beginning and then joined a few weeks later.
You and Sharon(SO) have put a lot of energy and effort in here, along with Beauty and all of the moderators both present and past.
You and Sharon have certainly paid attention to and listened to members from the beginning, making numerous changes that were shaped by member input along the way.
There are currently 2 sections that are hidden:
Mordor which I don't really care to read, I find other ways and websites to express my negative feelings about things;
The SO-only section, which I found very edifying - I miss it, but hope things settle down so that eventually part of it may become visible again.
Thank you all,
Jadeanne

perhaps the forum reflects society? one can't force society to be happy.
one thing for sure, the newbies that discover this place and sign up to find their bearings are happy this forum exists. so perhaps shannon THAT should be the satisfaction you are seeking? it seems to me its an accomplishment you should be proud of.

Well speaking as a newbie... I Come here about 3 -4 times a day.. I am very shy until I get to know people.. But let me tell you that the support that I received the first time I posted was incredible... I think (although I don't want to speak for my wife) my wife also feels the same way.. Don't forget that almost 80% of the people on the net are just seeking information.. And there are people that take life to seriously and make the world harder on them selves and everyone around them...Shannon wrote:It has long been a problem of mine to make this forum a happy place for all...... but it has always been my desire.

Hi Shannon,
Please, please don't change things.
Finding this forum, and contributing to it has become an essential part of my life.
The careful, yet liberal administration of this board is superb.
There will always be discontented types - don't let them dominate.
Just adding my voice to the chorus that says:"If it ain't broke - don't fix it."
Sincere Hugs ..

Hi Shannon--
This forum is one of the best-moderated ones that I know, and I spend more time here than other places for that reason alone. Creating Mordor and then choosing to keep it around were good decisions, IMO. Hiding the SO section makes sense to me. You're keeping up with requests for change, and you're doing it by consensus. That seems like good administration to me.

I really don't think anybody left because they were unhappy with the forum. More than likely there are other issues as well.
Sometimes people just feel drained trying to cope in the real world, and then reading some posts that contain bickering back and forth between a couple of adults pushes them over the edge. That's not the fault of the forum, just the fault of some of the members.
The forum is still a good place, even in view of some recent changes.
I know I wouldn't still be here if it weren't. My wife wants me to stop posting and gets upset when she finds me still here. It's just something she'll have to live with. Being online with other CDs is my only outlet. I could join a local TG group as an outlet, but it wouldn't be the same.
Besides this one, I post in four other forums, as the variety is stimulating also. But this is the first one I log on to in the mornings, and several times a day.

I agree with you ladies
and in my opinion there´s nothing wrong with this forum. I registered about a year ago and usually check the forum at least once a day. It is true that some members are very active at first but suddenly they are gone for good. Who knows why but is it necessary to know? I´ve learned a lot reading these posts and perhaps I´ve managed to make somebody´s life a little bit easier too.

Hi Shannon,
I personally think you have achieved the near prefect balance in this forum and I love this place. For me it's all about quality, rather than quantity.
Of the other forums I have visited, I consider this forum to be the most supportive and my spiritual home.
Other forums it seems you need at least 100 posts+ before they really acknowledge you (if you are lucky). Here you are greeted and spoken too, from the word GO........
I appreciate the hard the work you and all the moderaters put in to this forum, which makes this place, I feel the success it is.
To quote ' you can not please all of the people all of the time, just most of the people, most of the time. '

Shanon: I think this forum is one of the best things in my life. Twice I truly believe that it has saved my life. I always come to the forum every time I connect to the internet at home.
I think that people are people and we have personality's that will conflict with others. You and your team of superior people attempt to do the a fair job of stopping the bad threads. People are going to do what people are going to do. You are fighting the same thing that the government is fighting but on a smaller scale, equalness in and for all people.
Thanks for being here. Gee.
