Hi Lynn,

Go on the net and use Google with the words "black cohosh." You'll get more information than you need.

Whatever you do - be cautious. This is an herbal estrogen substitute that is unreliable and untested. Take care. Breastforms are much safer.

Black Cohosh is used to relieve hot flashing in women with menopaus. Some over the counter medicines for relieving menopausl symptoms include BC as part of the ingredients. It does work, according to my wife, but not 100%, but did reduce the flashing significantly.

Based on the above, herbalists would have you believe that it has estrogen like qualities, and will therefor cause breast enhancement. This isn't true. Some constituents of the BC extract bind to at least one subtype of estrogen receptors, this binding produces very little, if any, estrogenic effect, and may selectively block some of these effects.

It has had no affect on my wife's breasts.

There have bee a few cases of autoimmune hepatitis apparently being caused by the use of BC. Probably someone taking too much, if BC was indeed the cause. I doubt it, myself, as BC has been used for many many years in Germany, for example, and there has been no findings, that I'm aware of, of BC causing the immune system to attack the liver cells.

Too much can cause dizziness, headache, giddiness, nausea, vomiting.

During the end of my last pregnancy my midwife gave me a tea-like drink made of black cohosh and blue cohosh supposedly to move me into and ease the labor. I don't know what the difference is but i know it was the nastiest tasting concotion and I ended up with another C-Section anyway.

I had some tea bags like Terry , Black cohosh , blue cohosh and a number of different ingredients.
They mainly had an effect on my mood , I tend to have days similar to women going through menopause where everything grates on my nerves.
The simplest thing such as someone saying "good morning" is enough to make me want to snap back at them.
I found those tea bags really helped on those days , I didn't experience any physical effects.

Another herb " RED CLOVER " is also widely used in this country.
