Brand New Day

Post by CJ »

Hi all,

It's a brand new day; the move is over; we're fairly organized (although all the books are still in the boxes); the sun is shining; the temperature is (finally) on the coolish side; the cats are back after a week-long stay with friends (the black one is right now outlined on the window sill); the coffee's good; there's classical music in the background (turned low so my roommate can get a few extra winks); and last night I had a great conversation with a friend I hadn't spoken to in a long time. The world is good. I'm thankful for this brand new day. -wow-

May yours be as refreshing.

Love,
CJ

Morning CJ,
I wish you a lot of luck with all the unpacking, as we moved over a year ago and still have boxes not unpacked  Carol Ann

Good morning, CJ! You're well into the work day by now, and it can be a productive one. What a nice post to get! The morning is good here, too, as my car's front brakes get a revamp, at a very reasonable price. I'll go pick it up later today, and then start planning how the truck's transmission is going to be fixed. Step at a time.

Hi CJ,

Glad to hear the move went well, and you are getting settled in. You sound real glad about the move, although you did not specifically say so. I know the stress of moving and how great it feels to be done moving.

I agree that it is so nice to see such an uplifting post. What a great way to start the day.

Love Always,
Elizabeth

Hi CJ,

I'm glad that you are getting settled in to your new place. It will all be over soon and then you can sit down, kick your feet up, have a nice cup of java and with a sigh of relief, feel good about it all... @@9@@

I hope after the dust settles we will be hearing a lot more from you... \:D/

Missed you not being around so much!!! :(

Many Hugs, (--)

I'm glad you are all settled in! I saw that on T.V once, about moving day in Quebec, that is a very unusual custom, do you move every single year? It is refreshing, moving, even though it's such hard work, it's nice to have different surroundings isn't it?
Our house is all topsy turvy at the mo, Ed has taken out a wall, ceiling and the kitchen and is busy rebuilding them. There is not single thing here that is not piled up and covered in dust  It has upset my equilibrium, but I'm coping  There is not a lot of Feng Shui happening at present!
Ed was working on the kitchen till about two this morning, I saw a little knitted skirt and angora top out this morning, so he must have had a quick shower and changed for a while before coming to bed to help him restore his own equilibrium

Have a great weekend, CJ.

Hi all,

Curly,

Yes, I guess it is a strange custom to have moving day fall on the same specific date each year (July 1st) and, no, we don't move each year, thank goodness! I'm not sure why it's like this in Quebec. Maybe, along with our civil code, this is something we inherited from the French? (Quebec is the only Canadian province to have its civil code patterned after that of France's rather than England's). I'd have to find out.

I think one reason things are set up this way is to afford a better legal protection to both landlords and tenants; leases in Quebec are usually signed on a yearly basis rather than a monthly one (like in other parts of the country) and the laws regarding the rights and responsibilities of both landlords and tenants are fairly stringent. For example, a tenant wishing to terminate a lease must advise her landlord at least three months before the end of her lease is due. In the same way, a landlord wishing to take possession of one of his rented appartments (that would be a "flat" to you, Curly) can only do so under very restricted circumstances and must signify his intentions to a tenant at least six months before the end of the lease is due. Often, in the case of disputes, the rental board tends to favor tenants, just because many landlords use exploitative tactics these days (here in Montreal, the current vacancy rate hovers around 1%; it's a housing crisis many landlords use as an excuse to either discriminate or to raise the rent beyond the usual allowable maximum of around 4%).

My roommate and I did plan to have a nice weekend, Curly but things got a little soured up. We lost one of the cats yesterday afternoon; he managed to squeeze himself out the bathroom window and is now roaming the wilderness of alleys. We're still looking for him. Still, it's another day. We take it as it comes. -wow-

Love,
CJ

That is such a bad situation when it first happens, CJ. I had one cat who slipped out of the new home, and it took a while to find her. Good luck on your searches!
