...and oddly enough I am actually looking forward to it! Wow! What's wrong with me? LOL!!! rotf

I'll tell you why. I have recently developed a LOVE for cooking. This year I've obtained a bunch of cool recipes off the web and when I go to visit my family, I will not only be assisting in the cooking process, but I shall also be armed with two of my own personal dishes! 1) Creamed Spinach (which I personally LOVE) and 2) Quiche Lorraine from scratch, not that frozen nonsense (I will modify the recipe to add the ingredients I know my family and I will love!!) Plus, I am in charge of the gravy and the stuffing.

This may sound crazy but I am so looking forward to cooking for Thanksgiving this year! Who knows? Maybe next year, I can even prepare the turkey... or maybe let my sister worry about that and I handle the side dishes.

I know that my mother wouldn't mind... she's done it herself for well over 30 years, and with her recent health problems, well hey, she doesn't need the stress of worrying about preparing a big holiday meal. So my younger sister and I have stepped up to the plate and have decided to do the majority of the feast preperations this year.

Now, as for my other sister, well... let's just say that she needs a recipe to boil water... so she's in charge of the dessert & the wine.

Anyway, tomorrow after work I must brave the supermarket crowd... I have some ingedients to pick up!

Hi Lorna,

Spinach!!! ack!!! [-o< Even the smell of it gets my stomach aching. :)

I think it's cool that you're going to help out. =D> Seriously that is so cool!! :)

I love my wife's cooking on t-day. I got almost everything we needed. The crappy part is that I have to clean up everything and I mean everything. I have to put away the food too, but I'm not complaining because it's sooo good. :)

I did laugh my butt off at what you said about your sister's boiling water skills. :) You are too funny, did you know that?
:kisscheek:
Happy Thanksgiving Lorna! Good luck with your shopping tomorrow...oops.. I mean today!! :)

Good for you Lorna! =D>

My granddad was an excellent cook, and also due my mom's great cooking, I picked it up also.

I usually cook most of the holiday meals.

I'll start early in the AM with cleaning, preping and then baking the Turkey. I may prep it tonight with a rub and then cook it tomorrow. I always add butter and herbs between the skin and breasts.

Green beans are cooked in butter and some water, flavored with onion and either salt pork or bacon bits. I prefer the salt port (more of a country flavor) and my wife prefers the bacon bits.

Dressing includes diced onions, celery, rosemary, sage, thyme, butter, and toasted bread crumbs. I usually wait until the turkey is done and resting, pull juice from the bottom of the pan and use this to moisten the dressing along with chicken stock or water.

Sweet potatoes are cooked diced and flavored with brown sugar and butter.

Garlic flavored mashed potatoes will also be available.

My wife does the deviled eggs, homemade bread and deserts.

I'm real confident about the quiche!! Of course it won't actually be tasted until it 's on the family table tomorrow, but when I pulled it out of the oven this afternoon it smelled so delicious... =P~ @@9@@

I added 2% milk to the eggs, a light sprinkling of Parmesan, chopped up the Swiss cheese, diced the ham, onions & tomatoes, and added some broccoli bits. =P~

While you're all stuffing yourselves on turkey - - let me tell you what I'm grilling:

New York Strip steaks! *^^* !!tongue!!

Add some baked potatoes (pierced with a fork, then rubbed in Extra Virgin Olive Oil, rolled in Kosher Salt, then baked at 350 degrees for an hour) - yum!

Vegetable Medley - combination of broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, and green beans. I'm not sure yet if I'm going to steam these, or put them in a baking pan with butter, cover the pan with foil, then place on the top rack of the grill for 10 minutes.

Dessert - well, it just has to be Pumpkin Pie with Whipped Cream! It is Thanksgiving, after all! :)

And to top it all off, the temperature is expected to be in the upper 70's and sunny - - not quite warm enough for shorts ::hmpf:: but still decent weather for the end of November!

So, I guess I'll just sit back with a bottle of Amber Bock beer and watch the steaks on the grill. @@9@@

You ladies all enjoy your turkey and stuffing!

BTW: Dinner's at 4pm - come on over! I'll provide the grill and the Amber Bock; bring your own steaks and anything else you'd like to eat! {And if anyone takes me up on that, I'm in deep doo-doo with the dh! [-o< ::shrug:: Worse things can happen!

Have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Hmmm... I'm doing Filet Mignon with baked potatoes, etc. Unfortunately, with 4" of snow on the ground from yesterday's storm and four more expected by dinner time, I'm gonna have to settle for the broiler. :(

Oh, and my outdoor thermometer presently reads 2.5F ..OO..

Happy Thanksgiving All and zzzzzz

Love,
Kathy

Mmmmmm, Filet Mignon sounds great, too, Kathy!

However, you can keep the snow (an awful 4-letter word!) and the 2.5F. Brrrrrrrrr!

Have a great Thanksgiving, everyone! Kathy, enjoy your week of freedom - you deserve it!

I love to cook also.

Cooking can be so much fun . I always watch the cooking channel. I just love Molto Mario and Racael Ray.You can cook delicious and simple meals quickly with only two pans or one baking dish in the oven or on the grill. Put on your favorite music, pour a glass of wine(and your favorite outfit of course!) and have fun. I love it and it can be very relaxing. I don't understand why people dread it. It's a way to wind down after work and is not difficult. Clean up never bothered me. I'd make some lady a great wife! Last saturday I made linguine with osters and home made pesto sause. It was fabulous. I also love shopping at the grocery store. You meet the nicest people and employees. My fantasy is to go shopping en femme. Pretty simple fantasy,I don't ask for much. Big hugs to all. Have a wonderful holiday.

Love
Jeannie :)
