Hey girls!!

I bought a new monitor today because my old one fried. I decided on a beautiful 19" widescreen LCD flat monitor for which I got a great deal. I love it - the colors & clarity are top notch... everything appears brighter & crisperl!!

Anyway, the problem is that since this is a widescreen monitor everything that shows up on my screen is really wide.

For anyone out there who REALLY knows computers, I need to set my screen into a 1440 x 900 resolution in order for everything to appear normal. I searched high & low all over the web for the proper drivers to fix this, but have had no success thus far.

I then downloaded a program called Powerstrip, which supposedly would allow me to customize my screen resolution but that hasn't worked either. I know for a fact that my video card on my computer supports widescreen monitors, therefore I must be doing something wrong somehow.

If anyone out there knows how I can fix this, thanks in advance!!

Check under the "Control Panel" "Display" and "Settings" for the varous settings avaliable for your screen resolutions.

Only the recommended screen resolutions are listed. For additional settings, click the "Advanced" button on the "Settings" tab, click the "Adapter" tab, and then click "List all Modes". Select the resolution, color level, and refresh rate you want.

The above holds if the make and model of the monitor shown on the "Settings" tab is the same as your new one. Otherwise you'll need a driver to match the new one. Usually it will be found on your OS disk, but there should be one somewhere on the net.

Do you have it hooked up using a VGA connection or the DVI connection because that can make a difference. The DVI will give you a better picture and the PC is more likly to pick it up correctly.

I have Dell Optiplex GX240 (it's about 4 years old) and I'm running Windows XP. The brand of video card is ATI - with a VGA connection.

Thanks for all the helpful links, ladies... I'm afraid that my video card may not support the widescreen after all.

I'll just exchange this widescreen for a regular 19" flatscreen - no biggie. I really don't feel like spending the extra $100 for a video card on a 4 year old computer.
